$1.33 billion Powerball jackpot won by one ticket sold in Oregon
Lump-sum cash option worth $621 million
Drawing was delayed by one state needing more time to process sales
Updated with area that winning ticket was sold
By Todd Northrop
Around the United States, millions of people had to wait an extra three hours last night to find out if they won the unbelievably massive Powerball jackpot, due to one unnamed state's inability to deal with the huge amount of ticket sales data.
When the drawing did finally occur Sunday morning, it turns o

$975 MILLION: Massive Powerball jackpot increases again
Easter sales dip might be holding it back
By Todd Northrop
The near-billion-dollar Powerball jackpot grew again last night, but perhaps not as much as it would have if this weren't Easter weekend.
The latest increase of the current lengthy Powerball jackpot run comes after nobody won last night's drawing, sending the Monday jackpot ever closer to heights that once seemed unattainable for a lottery game.
Monday's Powerball jackpot is currently estimated at $975 million, with a lu

Virginia man who won $1,000 a week lottery prize in Cash4Life says it's just "good"
I don't think most people understand how an annuity works. It is believed that if the state goes bankrupt then their lottery annuity will disappear. Also, no matter how old a lottery winner is, there is NO guarantee the person will live long enough to collect all the years of the annuity which ends in 20 years. Also a lottery winner only gets their annuity payment once a year. Most people want to regulate their own money instead of having it dished out yearly.

$1.23 BILLION: Powerball jackpot juggernaut keeps rolling
I wouldn't call it an adjustment, but it's not at all rare for the cash:annuity ratio to remain the same from one drawing to the next. According to the worksheets on the TX website the last two runs have consistently kept the same ratio for 3 consecutive drawings before changing for the next 3 drawings. What's unusual is a change as big as this one. The annuity estimate was increased by $70 million, while the cash value only increased by $13.8 million. We've seen mistakes in some of the reported

$1.23 BILLION: Powerball jackpot juggernaut keeps rolling
It's very common, and in fact rarely is the cash and annuity adjusted proportionally. Many times the cash value changes but the annuity is not adjusted. Keep in mind they are both estimates, and we are strictly speaking here about numbers being adjusted prior to the drawing.

$1.7 billion in combined jackpots, as USA multi-state lottery games peak together
Once again, they've been fortunate enough that when interest rates changed sales magically increased exactly enough for the advertised annuity to remain the same. Assuming that current cash value is realistic the annuity would have been bumped to about 991.5 if the interest rate hadn't changed.
If it rolls (about an 82% chance) it goes to $1.1 billion and $525 million cash.

Merry Christmas
Ques to throw out for discussion:
I win the Lucky for Life and choose the annuity (let's assume I'm young for the sake of this argument)
Okay, 20 yrs has gone bye ..... I'm in my mid fifties let's say and I'm in good health ..... I decide to sell my annuity to some financial company ..... Is that even possible? I would think if it were it would be based on 20 more years of my life, right?
Oh yeah, Merry Christmas all!
