Close Encounter guys!!
What is this talk about heirs, if you have something to give to your relatives or friends, you can give it to them while you are living. I don't know of anyone who plays the lotteries to have money to share with their friends, relatives or charity, but the first question most reporters ask of a winner is how much they are going to give to their friends, relatives and charity. The way I look at it, If you don't ask your friends, relatives or charity for money to play the lotteries and you ever

Lower Tax Burden for Winners?
Another good reason to consult a professional is that the advice you get on internet forums may be simplified, or even wildly inaccurate. For example, the 3.8% tax is actually called the Net Investment Income Tax because it applies to investment income. If you win the lottery the prize money is regular income, not investment income, and isn't subject to the extra 3.8% tax. Even if it was potentially subject to the tax, the tax is based on the lesser of your adjusted gross income above the thr

Charity workers share lottery prize
A syndicate of 24 volunteer charity workers from Laurieton has shared the $100,000 first prize in $2 Jackpot Lottery draw 8703 this morning. The syndicate leader, a 70-year-old local woman, was ecstatic on hearing the news from a NSW Lotteries official this morning. I m feeling ecstatic, naturally. I buy the tickets on behalf of a group of 24 volunteer charity workers and I m very happy because everyone can use the money. We ve been buying tickets for the last 12 months. We ve ha

Pease Fine
Can't you just drop a charity a wad of cash... I mean do it anonymously? You quickly hand it to someone in the correct department of a charity but just don't do much talking, as in say this is for such and such, have a nice day... Turn around and leave.

NC's biggest lottery winner, who faced drug charges soon after win, gives nearly $700k to church
maybe she'll tithe yearly till she reaches her 10%. I know I would never give to one church or any particular charity, millions of dollars, I'd rather spread it out. For $700000 I would rather give to multiple churches around my community that gives back to the community and not just pocket the $... or I could start my own church or charity and give my own donations to the church and write them off tax free knowing that the money would be put to use the right way.

Which Lottery Winner...?
He said he was doing it so he could give more to charity but I'm so not buying that. If he was that big on charity he would have given more than the $2 million he's given so far, and that $2M includes family and friends.

Charity & taxes
Merry Christmas everybody !! I know that this season might not be appropriate for these thoughts. But, I am interested in your opinions. You know that the subject of Charity comes up at winner's award ceremonies. My response would be , Look at all the taxes I have already paid and will pay . This is Social Responsibility . so, depending upon the size of the jackpot I will already have favorite charities to give to. Family first. California does not tax lottery winnings so that is 13% th

If you won either of the Big Ones: How much would you set aside for Charity?
Think understood the question. The government is taking 2/3's of the lottery winnings and no one here mentioned that forced charity{Medicare, Social Security, Wars, Pension Checks.} Just wait till the next president runs into 20%+ interest rates inflation. They will pass laws to take 90% of the lottery winnings then and yall will still be talking charity!

6 things to do before claiming your lottery prize
You would probably be pissed and feel like a fool if you read someone who worked for the charity signed it instead and claimed it for themselves. Maybe they would be generous and make a donation to the charity they once worked for.

Record Powerball jackpot won by 1 ticket
Again Jill, your assumptions that other people are beneath you betrays you. If a person gave ALL their winnings to a specific charity the check could be directed to the charity and no taxes would be withhold.
