Lottery Winners should build/sustain common charity fund
I think I will help my family out when I win the lottery and not charity because family sticks together through good times and bad. Forget charity!-weshar75

Can a non-profit Org. cash a JP ticket and NOT pay taxes?
What you're describing doesn't sound like a charity. It sounds like evadinging taxes on gambling income while using that income to pay yourself a salary to decide what legitimate charities to donate the income to. The question is whether you want to avoid paying taxes through legitimate charitable donations or put more money in your pocket. It's mostly an either/or choice; you can't do both well. You can legally avoid taxes by donating the money to a charity, but it's not a real charity if it

Do you REALLY expect to win?
Well FARASHAN my good LP poster, your statement is slightly unique in its perspective.....the USA, as you put it, did not put some of the money towards education. The taxpayers from various INDIVIDUAL states VOTED for it to be contributing part of the proceeds to the educational system... thats the beauty of our country, its left up to the individuals in a state to decide what they will do with their lottery money and not some some central government telling everyone how much to give and when to

$173 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls
If I win, I will never donate directly from the winning prize. I will set up the nest egg, then I will donate the portion of monthly investment income to the charity. Or, I will just set up my own. After seeing an Aston Martin with the logo of a school for blind, I stopped believing in ANY charity foundation.

If I won the Lottery (Charity Discussions).. I would give
First of all, I have always been told that Charity begins at home first and everyone else is second, third and so on. So once my charity at home is done, I will then give what I want to give to those that I feel are worth giving too! But my two top picks (no matter what) will be both Women and children shelters (one in Las Vegas and the other here in Delaware). All others will have to wait.

Simon Cowell still buys lottery tickets
Or that Simon simply takes me on as a charity case and gives a few million dollars net to me. Perhaps I'd appreciate Simon's love move more than the average charity would.

Charity
Definitely the Boy AND Girl Scouts of America. Definitely Loaves and Fishes. Definitely the SPCA. Definitely the Red Cross. Definitely Paralyzed Veterans (I don't know how many reams of postal labels they've sent us, but God bless 'em, I'll show my appreciation for their labels, and their sacrifice) and after that, I'll think about it.
