Spain's El Gordo dishes out €2.6 billion in annual Christmas lottery
Winning numbers announced during event that lasted four hours By Kate Northrop Millions of households have been tuning in to watch El Gordo (The Fat One), the world-famous lottery that doles out over two billion in prizes every year. This year, the lottery is distributing a whopping 2.6 billion (US$2.86 billion) in prizes to winners across the country. It's not uncommon to see people rushing out into the street and erupting in celebration as the event progresses, perhaps popping a bo

Court finds that skill games are legal in Pennsylvania
The last paragraph about SUMS it...more money for the state coffers if that goes through. Not sure if this is the same thing, we had 'grey' slot machines in some small businesses and just recently outlawed for good, however there are still ads for some kind of slot machines in Louisville but very limited hours. The voters got their wish for sports betting here. I'm too dumb to understand it and don't want to bother folks playing on the machines. The state adds 9% for the machines and wh

Powerball & Mega Millions: A History
Yeah, the lottery industry needs to realize most players recycle the lower tier wins back in to the lottery most of the time anyway. In addition, if the lower tier win is big enough, it gets put in to the local economy; with taxes on those purchases... win-win for both the player and gubment. So, it would be the best interest of all, if the lottery industry would loosen their money bags a bit and crack off a little of that pot for those lower tier wins.

California man asks clerk to choose a lottery game for him, ends up picking out a ticket worth $10M
My eyes were scanning the article looking for just that, lol. We just got the feel good story and how the universe conspired to get him a winner, but what is important is the giving back - I would have taken the 5M and told the cashier, here's 800K for you, but the taxes are on you as well. I hope the winner did not give the cashier $100.

$1.76 billion Powerball jackpot won by one ticket sold in California
I never get drawn into the hype regardless of the amount on offer I always buy one PB with power play and one MM with the multiplier. I will try the after taxes amount and add an extra ticket for every 100M under the cash option and not annuity. Best of luck too in tonight MM if you have a ticket for that

Putting your millions in the bank
Commercial Banks are THE worst place to put your money..Negotiate special interest rate terms with them...Limit the amont to no more that what the FDIC will refund you , per Account, should the Bank bellyup... US Treasury Bills are alot safer,.. especially when we talking $1.73 Billion...no State Taxes on'em.. But NEVER put all yo eggz in 1 basket..!!

$1.4 BILLION: Powerball jackpot juggernaut keeps rolling
Ooh yes it does. I would just take it all and put it into 12 month T.Bills at 5.4% PA for a return of 13.7M a year after taxes. I don't need a 47M sprawling house, am ok with a 1M upgrade That is so much money, for real.

$1.2 BILLION: Powerball jackpot is 3rd-largest in game history
Sales are definitely down for this size jackpot Mondays are always slow compared to the other drawings, but tonight is Wednesday and they haven't raised the estimate at all. I'd still have thought it would finish out a bit higher, but a roll will mean an advertised jackpot of just 1.4 for Saturday. At this rate I'm not sure we'll see 2 billion by next Wednesday, assuming it keeps rolling. Of course they'll claim a new record if it makes it to 2.04001 billion, but with the current cash:a
