Whoever does win the $1.9 Billion better be packing!
Thank you for clarifying that the winner is getting $628.5 Millions after taxes. I got my roughly $500 Million after taxes from an estimate I saw before the Jackpot was over 2 Billion. Wow. $628.5 Million is definitely a life changing amount of money, in fact, that could set multiple entire Families for life!

Why isn't there a choice to split the Lump sum and the Annuity?
I think that would be ideal. Let's say you win 50 Million in the Powerball. You should be able to get a Lump sum of say $25 million before taxes and $25 million before taxes in Annuity. I don't get why this isn't a thing. Half lump sum, half annuity.

California Scratch Offs
Hi Cape, hope you busy winning as well among other things. I played this game a couple of times its a newer game never won til this hit. Not sure about CA taxes, i saw online briefly that they don't but not sure if it was trustworthy either way CA will find a way to get it indirectly from other taxes. Its my biggest win and i thought i was just playing to lose, for fun of course. Thanks for the support.

California Scratch Offs
Hi Fun, it's been a heck of a week so just playing catch up...but WOW, OFF THE CHAIN win there with the $10 Bonus Blast game. Heck I don't think you've showed that game yet!?? Either way amazing win!! You mentioned taxes...does CA hit you up for state taxes too? In FL we have Federal but no state. Either way hope to see you nail more big ones like this one (again, would have sent my congrats earlier, was just jammed).

State taxes - my experience
I love that Trust idea. Do you have to set up the Trust before you hit the jackpot? What kind of Trust is best for this? According to Investopedia, Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming do not levy state income taxes, while New Hampshire doesn t tax earned wages. South Dakota has a Registration of Trust cost of $125. From greensfelder.com, States where you can avoid income taxes In states such as Kansas you can avoid state i

One Michigan lottery ticket wins $842.4 million Powerball jackpot
The lottery in America is considered one of the most unfair lotteries. Firstly, there are high taxes, a 40% deduction from the prize for the 'Lamp Sum,' state taxes, and on the other hand, in many cases, lottery winners lack any contribution to the country's growth and development. If you look at the list of lottery winners, none of them are recognized as scientists, researchers, inventors, or entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, the lottery often favors those who shouldn't, and this is fundamentally u

California man asks clerk to choose a lottery game for him, ends up picking out a ticket worth $10M
I thought they had taken all the federal taxes on the 10M since Cal does not pay state taxes on lotto. But if I bagged 5.8M after all taxes and the cashier picked the ticket for me (especially a scratch game and not the QP tickets) , I wouldn't think twice about giving them 800K. It was purely the clerk's choice that won.

Florida Fantasy-5 Players
Here's my scientific wild guess as to what we'll see as a big FF5 jackpot payout after March 20th - $300,000 take per drawing. That translates into $150,000 allocated to the winning prize pool. 62% of $150,000 is $93,000 (before taxes) So jackpot payouts will be about $85,000 to $93,000 before taxes and that's if nobody else matched 5 numbers. After a pari-mutuel split and taxes taken out, a players check for a jackpot win could easily be $15,000 to $25,000. Great. Just great. Gone are t

State taxes - my experience
There has been a lot of discussion in the $1.3 billion Mega Millions jackpot thread about how state taxes are applied. Here is my experience. I am resident of Canada and on two occasions I won a large enough sum in a US lottery to have the tax applied. The state in which I won the prizes had a state lottery tax at the time. I had to pay the state tax even though I was not resident of the state. I was told everyone is obligated to pay the state tax regardless of where they reside. I also
