N.M. Lottery posts second-best year
Lance,I think the feeling in general is that when people become educated as to the drawing mechanisms, we have found that the majority of those people dislike computerized drawings.Out of the millions of people who play the lottery, a certain percentage -- I'd guess that it's probably the majority -- is not motivated to become more educated on the lottery itself, as it is merely a form of entertainment to them.If you were to take an average citizen -- not someone educated as to the different opt

Sign the petition - eliminate computerized drawings!
Well, to address your viewership question, studies have shown that people want the drawings shown on live TV, even if they don't watch them. They want to know they're there, because then they know it's true and fair. That should totally clarify that point. With computerized drawings, not only do you get no live drawing, but even worse, you get a cartoon which mimics a drawing. Why, MathWizard, do you think they mimic a ball machine in the cartoons? Why not just show scrambled numbers coming t

Wisconsin Lottery switches to computers to select winning numbers
By the way, Chuck, good to have you on board. Too many in the industry treat the players in a very disconnected manner, and you are always very open and communicative - and sensitive to the feelings of the players. I'm sure others here would agree.I'm sure this issue will not go away for a long time - if ever. There will always be players who do not like computerized drawings. There is also a large block of players who don't care either way.I guess my main sticking points boil down to:I perc

What about those bonuses!?!
Quote: Originally posted by Alicerosalyn on August 30, 2004Fellow lottery players,I've seen a couple of news articles about lottery top officials being given huge bonuses. Hmmmmmmmmmm, wonder why? Aren't these games state government run (Georgia being one of those states)? How in the world can they justify bonuses when they've implemented computerized drawings to save money ? How many other state employees (top officials included) get such large bonuses? bonuses period? Are they getting b

Live drawing fluke puts Maryland lottery machine maker in spotlight
Sounds like you have not read any of the numerous news stories with catastrophic computerized drawing failures. You may put your trust in computers for fair drawings, but I sure don't. You point out a little incident involving single drawing, and cast doubt on real drawings, but I guess you're implying you have no problem with months of computerized drawings in which huge swaths of tickets have no chance of winning. You said Things usually go wrong when the games are first brought in. But

Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich answers your questions
Hello all LP members, *Sigh* It is too bad and someone made an excellent point in the form of a question. Something like, Are the RNG's (computerized drawings) for the benefit of the lottery staff, or for the benefit of the players? Yes, I thought the whole idea was for player enjoyment. It seems that Mr. Rich made that sort of clear in one answer where he claims RNG's are here to stay. The problem is that almost everyone that actually PLAYS the lottery would feel more secure seeing b

Missouri Goes To Computer Generated Draws
Here is the reply I received from the Missouri lottery, they pretty much repeat the press release to justify their actions as if I hadn't read it. Please take a minute to visit http://www.molottery.state.mo.us/ and use the contact form to let them know these fake drawings are not wanted by real lottery players. BobPDear Randy: (Yup, even got my name wrong.)Thank you for your concerns and comments, I am sorry you feel sostrongly about the computerized drawings. I would like to take thisopportu

British Columbia Lottery wants to upgrade computerized drawing system
By Todd Northrop Canada's British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) in order to expand and improve its ability to conduct computerized lottery drawings. While the lottery may view a new computerized drawing system as a step-up for the organization, lottery players may feel differently. In the United States, computerized drawings are the basis for the biggest scandal to ever rock the lottery industry. According to the RFI, the British Columbia

Jackpot-fixing investigation expands to more state lotteries
Some people occasionally bring this up as a way to show some kind of balance between ball drawings and computerized drawings. But that is like comparing a raindrop to a monsoon. Yes, you can theoretically say a ball drawing can be rigged, and you can even say that it was rigged in that one specific case, many years ago. But in that one instance where it was done it was CAUGHT because you can physically inspect the balls and any layman can witness the drawing and see what happens. With comp

Four years after drawing fiasco, Tenn. Lottery settles with tech firms
I remember posting about hidden errors that can occur without anybody noticing WAY Before these drawing errors were ever confirmed. For example, here's a post I made on Aug. 8, 2007 that talks about hidden errors in computerized drawings that can go on for a long time before anyone notices. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for a lottery to go to computerized drawings, other than their perception that it will be easier for them to manage. Computerized drawings are a huge mistake, espec
