The announcement of wrong numbers is not a legal issue and was a short lived error in the ordinary course of business. The tickets are bearer instruments. The lottery had no real obligation here. I bet they would not have volunteered to pay if a jp was won.

Although I've never refused a ticket that was created in error, it's my understanding (but I dont have any proof of it) that if the customer refuses the ticket, the cashier has three choices. Also, I've never had a conversation with any clerk in any store as to what their options are when a ticket is created in error. I have just returned from the store. I played a slip with 10 combos on it. I added #35 to most of them. I gave the slip to the clerk and he ran it through the machine. I got the total and it was $20.00.??? I paid it. When I got home, I checked the slip and it was a little ground up like the machine had tried to eat it. There was no sign of an error while the machine spit out my two?? tickets. Oh well. I will let you know how this turns out.

Be interested to see Todd Kate's response to NY Times article that Iowa post wrong Powerball results---human error. Suspicious to me that some folks were able to 'cash in' amounts up $200 on the wrong #'s in the wee hours of the morning. That doesn't sit well with me.
