How do you convince a team of lawyers, accountants, and financials advisers to give you advise -- before you have the money? I would think they would be looking out for the con-job. Hi, I won $350 million, come work for me. Will pay you next month; until then do all that work based on trust. By the way, can you loan me a couple of bucks so I can afford the gas to drive to the meetings?

If you won Wednesday's Powerball jackpot?
None of the above...I will take a leave of absence long enough to set up my financials ...trust fund, tax lawyer, etc. Then I would start looking for a property in the DC Metro area since my family wants to move back there (why, I don't know). Then back to some kind of work, if not the environmental work I do now, an average of 2.5 days a week. Then something else, maybe habitat for humanity. I already retired once and found out you have to do something.

Has your brother ever gotten mad or sad once or twice in his life? Oviously he's a mad man. Have him committed and take control of his financials. He would do it to you!! :)

Does A Lottery Winner Really Need A Financial Expert?
I think the only thing a lottery winner really needs is a good accountant as I'm sure the folks at the local H R Block don't usually deal with people who have millions. I'd say only those who don't know how to save and only spend are the only ones who should get financial planners, but then I think of Jack Whitaker. Before winning the lottery he was worth something like $15 million and still he used the money unwisely. Aside from how much he spent on his grand-daughter (right?) I read ot

Interesting way to avoid being hassled ?
First if I was possession of a major winning ticket I would have to find out who to trust the winnings with. The keyword is trust. Second of all different things I have read from this site is making me laugh a little bit. Very simply you put in the financial institutions of up to $250 k because the financials are insured for that. Don't tell many people.

Thank you for sharing that excerp. The best advisor I have found is that gut feeling. Hasnt failed yet. ANyone that does come into the confidence of a persons financials has got to be out for the person/family well being. Anything less is dismissable.

Why does it take so long ...
They know if there was a jackpot winner within a minute or two. That's easy. However, it takes a few hours because of all the auditing that takes place following the drawing. Lotteries normally do pre-drawings and post-drawings, and that's just to audit the draw machines themselves. They also have to audit all the sales and financials from all the states, and it's just a matter of taking time. These things all take place so that the government has the appropriate checks and balances in place

Said & done before but ...
Yes I am, but it won't help me when an ex comes after me, nor will it help if I am sued for grabbing that cutie on the butt. It won't matter what you chose when you have a car accident and the accident was your fault. You can't hide millions, the IRS won't let you. You turn up with a huge variable on your worth, and the IRS will be on you like smell on sardines. You think you can tie up cash in an investment, and a lwayer can't get at it? Guess again, those things are public records, thus tar

favorite topic or forum on LP
I wonder how many would actually stay on here after winning millions?I figured the night before I won the big one ($90M+) would be the last time I logged onto LP. It would be last night I watched a movie of some one having fun in Las Vegas, or Los Angeles, or Peking, or Paris, or Rome, or wherever. I would go there, at the drop of a hat. I would have one of those black AmEx Centurion cards and one of those black MarquisJet cards. Let the lawyers and financials wizards do their thing, and check i
