Kentucky Lottery and legislature tussle over cash reserves
Sounds like Kentucky is trying to copy Illinois. Lottery money should be lottery money and that is that. Here's an article from WNDU.com, pertains to Indiana, not Kentucky, but worth reading: Does lottery revenue actually help education? Updated: Wed 10:31 AM, Sep 29, 2010 By: Nick McGurk Email The Hoosier Lottery revenues are not spent like many people believe. Play the Hoosier Lottery, and your money will be part of the some $800 million spent just las

DOJ says privatizing state lotteries illegal
Indiana drops privatization plans after DOJ issues opinion Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said Friday that he is dropping the idea of privatizing the Hoosier Lottery as an option of funding a college scholarship program after the U.S. Department of Justice said such a move would not comply with federal law. The Oct. 16 opinion, which Daniels' office said was requested by Indiana and New Jersey, says states would not comply with federal law if they enter into long-term private management ag

Bill to outsource Indiana Lottery bans keno, video poker
Many upset over Governor's plan to 'sell the Lottery' A bill that would allow Gov. Mitch Daniels to outsource the Hoosier Lottery would prohibit a private operator from offering keno, video lottery games, pari-mutuel wagering on horses or dogs and games based on winners of races or other sporting events. Sen. James Merritt, R-Indianapolis, filed the bill Thursday on behalf of the administration but said he was allowed to put his own principles in it and was not in favor of such gambling ex

Indiana $1 million Powerball prize goes unclaimed
The champagne wishes and caviar dreams of the person in Indiana holding April's winning Powerball ticket will officially remain just those wishes and dreams, if not a nightmare after failing to claim their $1 million prize. Indiana's 180-day window for lottery winners to come forward came to a close Monday for the unlucky soul who purchased the lucky ticket in the April 10 drawing at the Circle K in Jeffersonville. It is rare, but not unheard of, that a prize of such magnitude goes unclai

Some States Consider Leasing Their Lotteries
As chief operating officer of the California Department of Finance, Fred Klass gets pitches from Wall Street bankers as often as the rest of us might get cold calls from telemarketers or insurance agents. But when Kathleen Brown of Goldman Sachs came to his office earlier this year and suggested privatizing the state lottery, Mr. Klass listened closely. It wasn't merely because Ms. Brown happened to be a former state treasurer as well as the daughter of one famous California governor and the

Despite strong opposition, Indiana moves ahead with selling lottery
Indiana is considering a Wall Street investment firm to help it pull together a plan to lease the Hoosier Lottery, despite legislative skepticism that could kill the deal. Gov. Mitch Daniels said Friday the administration is negotiating a contract with Morgan Stanley to test the market. A similar contract with Goldman Sachs Co. to market the Indiana Toll Road last year was worth about $20 million. The Toll Road eventually was leased for 75 years for $3.8 billion, and the state has esti

Indiana Lottery may spend $1M to settle lawsuit
A lawsuit over a winning $5 scratch-off lottery ticket may end up costing the state of Indiana more than $1 million. Indianapolis resident Tom H. Smith bought a $2 instant win ticket in 1996 and won $5. But he didn't try to collect the prize until months later and was told it was too late for the payout. Smith appealed to lottery headquarters, saying he had no way of knowing the game had ended, and eventually filed a lawsuit against the Hoosier Lottery. Others joined the lawsuit, sayi

Nearly $9 million of Mississippi Lottery tickets sold in first 6 days
No, it isn't. I wrote a physical letter to Mississippi lottery congratulating them on their lottery and suggested that after they get MM PB that they might consider on-line sales. Huh? Indiana got rid of that stupid, near sighted law that all of their casinos must be on water. I was simply pointing out ragging on where another state (Indiana) builds their casinos is hypocritical when casino gambling is illegal in the state (Kentucky) where you live. Only you know why you brought up

New Jersey lottery ticket wins $315.3 million Powerball jackpot
This should not be a surprise to anyone. Indiana joined Powerball on Oct. 14, 1990, and New Jersey joined Powerball 20 years later on Jan. 31, 2010. When Indiana joined, there were 12 states in the game. When New Jersey joined, there were 43 states in the game. With a head start like that, I'm not sure that Indiana crowing about a few more jackpot wins makes sense.

$20M lawsuit against Hoosier Lottery gets class-action status
Todd, Losing Jeff had a thread going one time about how lawyers in Indiana told him yes, he had a case- but since his case would require them going up against the state of Indiana, who licenses them, they couldn't. So he then contacted some lawyers in Illinois and they also told him he had a case, but they were Illinois lawyers and couldn't pursue such a case in Indiana. Stickey wicket + there's a carch Yossarian, Catch-22 , in a lotto sense.
