Low Jackpots and the Economy
Remember the days when Mega Millions and Powerball had 200 and 300 million dollar jackpots? I can't even remember the last time either hit 100 million. Not that 50 million isn't a lot of money, but weren't huge jackpots the point of the games? Do any of you think more people are playing and hence winning due to the economy and their own personal need for financial hope?

Finally, one's growing!
It's about to stop growing. $100M jackpots are starting to look as good as they did a few years ago when players would stand in line to buy a ticket. After a few $200M+ jackpots some players got spoiled and started waiting for $200M+ jackpots to start buying tickets. Now they're buying more tickets for the lower jackpots because there's a good chance it won't roll again.

$200 Million Jackpots
I haven't been here to LP in quite a while. Without the big Jackpots, I don't visit as much. I still play, but I guess I was spoiled by the large Jackpots of 2005. I'm anxiously awaiting a $200 million+ Jackpot. My bet is on Powerball reaching at least $260 million on this run.

Canada/annuity jackpots
One of the biggest differences between Canadian and US lotteries is that Canadian jackpot games have always been annuity-free (jackpots automatically are paid in lump sum.) Canadian lotteries are trying annuity games on a very limited basis. Do you eventually see Canadian jackpot games switching to annuity-based jackpots (I'm sure cash option would be available).

Lottery Jackpots
Have you guys noticed how many states games have large jackpots right now? It would be interesting to see what the highest ever average jackpot was for a week. With so many states jackpots so high right now I bet it could be in the running.Brad

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
If the probability of there being no winner at an opening jackpot is always around 92%, there is a 50% probability of there being around 8 starting jackpots before one is won on the first draw.Note that there really aren't that many starting jackpots in a year. There are many more drawings on jackpots that contain at least one roll. By my quick count, there have been only 7 reset jackpots in 2005Note also that it always possible for a jackpot to be won on a first draw. It may not be probable,

Jackpots
What do you think? Annuity jackpots are good because it gets more players thinking that the jackpot is bigger than it really is, so they buy on impulse, which gets the jackpots moving faster. On the other hand, seriously, who takes the annuity anymore anyways?

Streak of jackpot winners is bad luck for Powerball lottery sales
Its not that the sales are low for a 10 million dollar drawing. In fact the sales are normal for very low jackpots. What is killing powerball is the lack of large jackpots. Sales are higher in Megamillions now because the jackpots are 2-4x what powerball has been recently. I haven't played both for a while now because the jackpots have just stank. Neither game is living up to its potential recently.

Mega Millions getting boring
Megamillions is structured to generate large jackpots and can not do that with better odds. States can change thier state lotteries to attract those players who are willing to play for smaller jackpots with better odds. Some players will alway play the games with the bigger jackpots even if they have to travel to another state regardless of the odds. Ohio has been disappointed with the Megamillions, but not with the odds but the sizes of the jackpots, so it not likely the odds are going to
