PRNGs and Cycles
To my knowledge the best way to mitigate this is to use a true random seeding method for the PRNG, like from a hardware RNG that uses atmospheric noise, in the broadest sense. The language that a PRNG is implemented in and the device's operating system also affect the performance of a PRNG. It's unlikely that IGT and Scientific Games use Python on the back end of the devices they sell to state lotteries, I believe the operating systems they use are proprietary, though I suspect they are usin

Mathematics and the Lottery
Obviously we have to have a good planning to make lottery games. A good game still needs to meet formulator calculating factorial to develop combinatory analysis algorithms. Need to know statistics to elaborate the models over the last memory of sweepstakes, and be able to design the future observing what is only a MATHEMATICAL TRUTH and a TRUE logic, noting what the genetics of numbers in practice determines unquestionably, and what will happen in the future whose parameters respond with 100% a

Quote: My interest is based on a desire to find a formula for predicting the std.dev. for any set of lotto numbers. Professors of statistics have assured me there is no known formula that aplies to any and all lotto games. Thus the best one can hope for is an approximation by computer simulation. Your claim that you know a formula is nonsense. If you have one I dare you to submit it to a scientific journal for peer review. I bet it would be rejcted. You clearly don't

Statistical Analysis of Lottery Results
This is a concise summary of the history of the development of Probability Theory. If you dig deeper, especially into the work of Bernoulli, you will understand why I made the comment [somewhere] in the Fooled By Randomness Thread that Bernoulli would roll over in his grave if he could read some of the posts here. Why not seek the TRUTH? http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/cs6751_97_winter/Topics/stat-meas/probHist.html From Calculus, Volume II by Tom M. Apostol (2nd edition, John Wiley Sons,

Mathematics and the Lottery
ok..I want to take a stab at smething here if I may..its about MATH AND COMPUTERS AND COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS.....now since I AM LACKING KNOWLEDGE, ESPECIALLY in the computer and programming world...I do not mind being corrected here at all..but I have a few questions and answers I want to share... 1. IS IT true...that ALL COMPUTERS WORK OFF OF programs or algorithms THAT ARE BASED IN INPUT AND OUTPUT using mathematical calculations that are precise..for example..a scientific calculator..for TRI

Mathematics and the Lottery
Ok, let me put it another way. You're at a roulette table and it's been red for 15 times in a row. What would you bet for the 16th spin? Are you going to tell me that it still has a 50/50 chance, and bet red, or bet black? YES! Reading the above explains why Koycerin's name doesn't appear anywhere in the scientific literature. He is telling you what you want to hear, that it is possible to beat lotteries and casinos. In games like Blackjack, the player still has a slim chance of beating

What are the odds
Are the lines you play giving you the best bang for your dollar? Note! The cNr calculations are done using the standard windows calculator set to scientific mode. I have gone over this several times to reduce errors but some may still exist. My left hand types faster than my right which causes hard to find errors in the number values. With that being said, here we go. I will keep this simple as possible so that everyone regardless of you math level will be able to understand it. I

Determinism vs Randomness and Chance
Josephus, Several of your points are well taken. However, I must disagree with a couple. I wish I had had more faith in the other readers before investing so much time, apparently much of it wasted. The lack of enthusiastic postings supporting RL's claims should have been sufficient evidence for me to realize what you hint at; users of the system will find out how well it works. First of all, I think I made the case fairly well in my opening Post to this Topic that the more general philoso
