$435 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot on track to 17-month high

By Saturday evening, the multi-state Powerball lottery jackpot will almost certainly become the largest US lottery jackpot since the game's monstrous $1.6 billion record in Jan. 2016.
In the ensuing 17 months, Powerball's high-water mark has reached $435.3 million 4 months ago, on Feb. 22. (That jackpot was claimed anonymously by a man from Lafayette, Indiana.)

Powerball lottery heats up with new jackpot of $375 million

If world events have got you down, maybe the rising Powerball jackpot is just the thing to lift your spirits and your dreams.

Lottery winner gets 21 years for financing drug trafficking operation
Ronnie Music Jr., a Waycross, Georgia man who sank part of $3 million in lottery winnings into methamphetamine trafficking, will spend the next 21 years in prison on drug conspiracy and firearms charges.
Last July, the 46-year-old Music admitted his involvement in multi-state drug trafficking, including a ring being run from a Georgia prison that he fronted with lottery winnings. He also pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.

Tennessee bill advances to remove lottery winners from government assistance
The Tennessee House on Monday passed a bill despite opposition from Democrats that, if it becomes law, would require the names of lottery winners to be cross checked with federal and state government assistance programs.
Sponsored by Rep. Dan Howell, R-Georgetown, passed by a 73-21 near party-line vote on Monday night.

One ticket sold in Indiana wins $435 million Powerball jackpot

One ticket sold in the Hoosier State won Wednesday's $435.3 million Powerball lottery jackpot, which had been accumulating for 18 consecutive draws without a winner.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Super Test at 1609 Sagamore Parkway South, in Lafayette. Lafayette is about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

Texas man pleads guilty to fraud in lottery scandal case
A Texas businessman has pleaded guilty to fraud and admitted to helping lottery computer technician Eddie Tipton cash jackpots in a multi-state number-fixing scheme that netted $2 million.
Robert Rhodes pleaded guilty in a Des Moines courtroom Monday. Iowa prosecutors will seek two years of probation.
Rhodes says he helped Tipton try to cash a $16.5 million 2010 Iowa Hot Lotto ticket but suspicious officials never paid.

Mistake lottery ticket wins NJ man $1 million

A New Jersey man has won a multi-state Cash4Life prize worth $1 million because of a lottery ticket that was sold to him accidentally.
New Jersey Lottery officials reported the second-prize winning Cash4Life ticket was sold at Sam's Day Nite Food Store, 1200 River Ave., and matched five numbers but not the Cash Ball in the Dec. 1 drawing. The winning numbers were were 17, 23, 30, 49 and 55. The Cash Ball drawn was 1, according to lottery officials.

20 co-workers to split $421M Powerball jackpot

A group of 20 co-workers are the winners of Saturday's $421 million Powerball jackpot on a ticket sold in Tennessee.
The employees of the North American Stamping Group in Portland, Tennessee, play the lottery twice a week, buying at least 60 tickets and usually rolling any of their winnings into the next drawing. While they said they would be playing again, they aren't investing the $254.7 million lump sum this time around.
