Lottery tickets could soon be delivered to your home in N.J.
Itching to buy a lottery ticket but can't leave the house? Have one delivered. At least that's the idea behind a bill state Assemblyman John Burzichelli has introduced. The measure (A4018) would allow courier services to deliver New Jersey lottery tickets throughout the state. Burzichelli (D-Gloucester) said similar services are common in Europe. If you're either too busy or can't get out of the house, you can make arrangements, he said. Currently, New Jersey lottery players can buy

CT lawmakers again seek lottery winnings from 1995 ticket
By the time state Rep. Ernest Hewett met him, the kid was in his 30s. But to Hewett, the six-term Democrat from New London, Clarence Jackson's still the kid. And Hewett says he'll keep fighting for him until Jackson gets the $5.8 million Connecticut lottery jackpot that's eluded him for more than 18 years. 'Give the kid the money' that's what they used to say around the Capitol, Hewett recalled last week. That's what we ought to do. Jackson's oft-told story, revived again this month d

Texas lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow big lottery winners to keep their identity a secret, but they would have to pay for that privilege. Right now, Texas Lottery winners are not allowed to remain anonymous. In some cases, individuals have established a trust or turned their winning ticket over to a trust to claim the prize for them. But, Texas law requires that someone come forward to participate in a news conference and collect the money. House Bill 1504 would change th

Winners of large Arizona lottery jackpots would have their names kept secret for three months to give them time to prepare for their newfound wealth and shield their financial affairs under a bill set for a Senate vote Monday. The bill by Republican Sen. John Kavanagh is a more limited version of a bill he pushed in 2013 when he was in the House that would have kept winners' names secret forever. New fight looms over MN lottery online sales
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton is braced for a repeat struggle over the Minnesota Lottery and said Tuesday that its director faces a challenge in trying to preserve online ticket sales that many lawmakers want to outlaw. Dayton expressed little doubt that the Legislature will again attempt to bar most virtual ticket sales and acknowledged that the veto he used to short-circuit their push last spring might not hold up. At the urging of Lottery Director Ed Van Petten, Dayton struck down the prop

A proposed extra tax on New Jerseyans' lottery winnings stalled today after it became clear it was unlikely to be approved by a key state Senate panel. The money would be used to fund after school programs run by non-profit groups in municipalities where at least 40 percent of the school district's stud

800+ Michigan Lottery winners kicked off public assistance in 2013
More than 7,200 Michigan Lottery winners were living in households that received public assistance of some kind in 2013, and the state was able to close about 11 percent of those cases as a result. The Michigan Department of Human Services shared those findings Thursday in its latest lottery match report, analyzing the impact of a 2012 law that allows the agency to cross-check lottery winnings with public assistance programs and, in some cases, end benefits. Pennsylvania House passes bill giving Lottery odds and prize flexibility
The Pennsylvania House has voted 195-1 to send to Gov. Tom Corbett a bill that Pennsylvania Lottery officials say will give them more flexibility in setting player odds and prizes, increasing sales in the long run. But that flexibility is paired in the bill with a new requirement that the General Assembly have final approval over any Lottery plans to add new game categories like Keno or Internet-based games. The latter clause, added by the state Senate earlier this fall, was a response to
