Lawmakers steamed about lottery promotion
The Maine Lottery is getting strong, bipartisan criticism for its Funds For Fuel promotion as lawmakers say the lottery should not be using Mainers' fear of high fuel prices this winter to sell more lottery tickets. I think it is misleading, Sen. Debra Plowman, R-Hampden, a member of the Legislature's Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee that has oversight of the lottery, said this week. It almost sounds like some of the money will go to fuel assistance. It doesn't. It is just another way to

The economy is having its impact on the sale of Kansas Lottery tickets, according to lottery officials. Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten said Wednesday that ticket sales between July 1 and last Saturday are down 4% over the same period of time last year. Van Petten said the economy has been a factor, but that isn't the only reason for slumping sales. He said ticket sales have been down in the games with large jackpots because the jackpots haven't been that much in recent months.

Oklahoma Lottery worried about prospect of Arkansas lottery
Already falling short, Oklahoma Lottery sales could suffer even more from Arkansas competition A proposed lottery in Arkansas would devote more sales revenue to prizes, giving it a critical advantage over Oklahoma's game, Oklahoma's lottery director says. Sweet dreams in hard times add to lottery sales
When gasoline prices shot up this year, Peggy Seemann thought about saving the $10 she spends weekly on lottery tickets. In the year before, the lottery hit $2 billion in sales for the first time. Both increases come with a steady increase in the popularity of the lottery's instant games.
