Jorli, I so agree with you. To rebuild a city for a Super Bowl is senseless.
Our mayor and his cronies are spending like crazy on themselves...........latest thing was car starters for DOT employees.......geesh......what garbage........I hope the people of Detroit vote the way they should vote this coming election for Mayor........
The money is there..........it just needs to spent wisely. I should send my husband in there to run the financials............it would get fixed quick.....that is his job......to find "waste". For example....Chasney High School 2 years ago got a whole new "facelift".............yesterday, they announced they are closing it........"waste"...............car starters, "waste"...it is all over the place. Channel 4's "waste watchers" is exposing alot of things. I only hope the people in City of Detroit are watching.
Keepitreal.......yes keep it real..................first by understanding that you need a politician who is "smart", owes no favors, understands that one dvent will not change a city, "people" change a city (attitude and pride). I personally don't care if a man wears a sportshirt to a newsconference or a $1,000 suit like Kwame wears............the integrity and intelligence of a candidate is what I base my vote on..........Kwame has been rumored to party up a storm with women, etc. on Detroit's money.........what does that tell you about "integrity?" The Police Chief was going to Hawaii for some kind of boondoggle for "police"............she felt the heat and finally cancelled the trip...thank god.............THE PEOPLE OF DETROIT ARE ALLOWING THIS. It never should have been booked in the first place. We have wonderful venues in Downtown Detroit now. Greektown, the Casinos, Ford Field, Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena................wonderful restaurants, and has this changed the City of Detroit?...........nope.......why, because the focus isn't in the right place.........they just put in this new skating rink, you have Hart Plaza.......some of my fondest memories are standing in Hart Plaza waiting for the Grand Prix to begin and eating a picnic on a blanket looking at the Detroit River........it was wonderful....but alas, they moved the Grand Prix and out went all the people who enjoyed it in downtown.............I love baseball....the Tigers are my team...all my life, I have loved my Tigers........They did not need a new stadium......Tiger Stadium was a tradition and I loved it.....Comerica Park is fine but give me back Tiger Stadium........did Comerica Park actually bring more "money to the city?" I don't think so...........it's prettier and more fan friendly but did it actual improve "the bottom line for the city?" Boston does just fine with their "old stadium." Waste.........waste........all over the place.
Chicago..........a great city......I love that city.........what do they different than Detroit? They make downtown accessible to the suburbs. They have a rail system that is outstanding.........my son lives in a suburb of Chicago..and I only have to walk 3 blocks to catch the train...........the train takes me downtown and drops me right off in front of the baseball stadium...no hassle, no parking problems, no traffic problems........they got it right...............what does Detroit do to make it convenient for suburbanites to come to the city.........well, for starters.....any dvent I have to pay 20 to 30 bucks to park, fight a traffic jam, etc..........no one had a VISION for Detroit.............you have all the amenties with great stuff downtown, but the suburbs don't want to come because the access is too hard............I don't care how they do it.........run busses from the malls every hour, build a rail system, something.......anything.........I would love to take a bus or train from the mall which is 15 minutes from me and have it drop me off in front of Comerica Park.....I would be to at least 2 to 3 games a month........spending my money in the City............instead of the once or twice a year I go now.
The best thing the City of Detroit could do is elect a new Mayor............and I really don't see anyone with a vision..............my favorite is Ken erel, Jr. ....but I don't think he is running................
So, keepitreal, don't be counting on the money from the lottery.......count on a new mayor who will have VISION and the knowledge on how to execute it.
