I'm selectively greedy. Example:

A box of chocolates? = "Oh sure. Here. Help yourself".

A winning Mega Millions jackpot ticket? = "Get your Goddamn paws off my ticket punk".

that would be pretty awful if you knew you had the winning ticket and couldn't find it because you lost it and some lucky stranger cashed it in.....

Yea, it's one thing to lose a ticket... but to lose it unsigned AND know that another found it is a heartbreaker.

What if the original owner had a photocopy of the ticket and he/she also contacted the lottery commision.

I wonder what the lottery commision would do?

I think that may depend on your state/country.

I've heard something like that... I forget exactly, but I think the story I heard about... the state would recognize you as the winner/ticket-owner if you had a copy of the winning ticket.

Hey I just noticed my Take Five lottery ticket for today. The rear is different. Besides signature, it now says to print your name and address, city, state, zip code.

They are definately lurking at LP, but that's a good thing. There's always room for improvement.

Take Five is far better than NY Lotto, although it needs a jackpot.

I'd sign the back of it immediately and keep it.

I wonder what the lottery commission would do.  If I did that and they denied the jackpot to me, I think I'd sue and say I found the ticket fair and square.  It would be a big mess.

if you sign it even if someone steals it it is still yours.

I would keep it.  I even check the tickets thrown all over the parking lot of the retailer just in case.  After my dad threw away $5,000 I check all tickets I see.

I'd keep it  --  unless there was a name on it.. or I had seen who dropped it. If there was anything that identified who the owner was I would make ever effort to return it to him or her

I learned that in elementary school, just like what ADIDAS stands for.
