I've spent some time asking people in line buying lottery tickets whether they believed they'd win.  Most seemed fairly confident they will someday.  But some are buying tickets, while saying outright they don't believe they'll win.

About a third of them mutter the clich'e you see on LP a lot:  "Can't win if you don't buy a ticket."

Might be interesting to know how LP users see the possibility of a jackpot win in their futures.

I do heavy thinking about winning.  I wouldn't personally play/invest my money if I didn't think I could win.  Why couldn't it be me is my philosophy!  This year, I have observed the large jackpots won by a $7 an hour clerk and an investment broker. I read the news in April and saw that 6 Cinn. Red Baseball Players pooled their money in the MM.  Highly competitive they are, but I believe an ordinary Joe can be as competitive with his belief/hope in winning.

For those who are not so convinced about winning, this is for you:

"Let yourself be crazily, stupidly enthusiastic. Be
so convinced of the possibility- no probability- of
winning that you make other people believe they,
too can win. " Author Unknown

Nothing wrong with dreaming, no harm in it. Never lose sight of who you are then you can be who you want to be regardless if you never win. I play, and I am a positive person but winning the lottery had nothing to do with attitude. I really don't think I will ever win, odds are stacked against all of us.

I hold the winning ticket all the time. I don't stop believing this until the drawing is over. Then I start again believing I have the winning ticket.

I'm pretty sure I will win . Might be going on 80 or 100 but I'm still buying tickets untill the day I get it. You have to have confidence you'll win one day.

I plan ahead of time. If I didn't think I could win than I wouldn't play.

Odds are I'm going to loose. Closest I ever came was off by two numbers on a Powerball. I am more frustrated that it's taken so long for these multi-state games to fix the low jackpots that they have had for a while.

I would like to believe that I will win again. Some people have won up to 3 times. I beleive I saw where a PA player had won 5 large jackpot prizes over the years. Lottobrain

Although I sometimes buy a ticket I know there is no way I would ever win. It just ain't gonna happen. I'm more likely to be elected President of the United States than to win a major lottery. No Pity!

With the lottery I get all the exercise I need.

Yes I am going to win the powerball before this year is up and when I win it I will keep on playing for the next jackpot to win and then the next jackpot.  Hell I will throw a dollar down on powerball as long as their is still air to breathe and I am still kicking.  Besides someone is going to win the jackpot so it might as well be me.

Not quite, are you a moderate? Are you not stinking rich? If you're either one, you're more likely to win the lottery.

Well, I play for the smaller prizes. That's something I can win, and I'll get excited about any win.

I don't think I'll ever win but I play because there is always that chance.  YOU NEVER KNOW.  Everyone has the same odds of winning.  The thrill of holding a possible multimillion dollar ticket is worth the $1.

How are you going to win if you don't play?

Sheeeeeze.  If that was a possibility I'd be paying money to the lottery systems every week just to make sure I didn't have a ticket by accident.
