The one day you decide not to play in your work's lottery pool, they win $315 mil. How do you react?

After hearing that a group of people at work formed a lottery pool in California and won the Mega Millions $315 million jackpot on Tuesday, you just know that there was probably at least one other person who played in that group, but decided not to play that day, for whatever reason.

Maybe they thought they were just throwing their money away and would never win anything, so they stopped playing in the lottery pool.  Maybe they just accidentally left their $3 sitting on the table at home and therefore had to skip that Mega Millions drawing.

So, imagine if you were in that situation.  We all like to imagine what it would be like if we won, but how would you feel if you were in this situation?  Maybe you had been playing for years with your lottery pool, but you just had to skip this drawing, and it turned out that they bought the winning ticket?

The pool players that skip the one time that the JP gets hit will retain an attorney and get something out of it anyway, you know- they played before, so their winnings were reinvested, etc....

    Seen this happen before...

That wont happen.  Whoever played will get paid.  Whoever, made the choice to sit this one out, made the worst mistake of their lives.  Either you're in or you're out.  If they had decide to keep their $3, no one could have forced them to give it up, no court will force the winners to give them one red penny.

I value integrity over all other emotions.  I would just walk away.  It wouldn't be the first mistake I made that was costly, and probably won't be the last.  Accept what life hands you and be a man.

        Cheers

If you ain't in it then you didn't win it. Congratulate them and go about your business. Your co workers will probably quit their jobs and you'll be promoted.

I chose other. I would commit suicide, by locking myself in the basement with an insurance salesman.

Sure it's a slow death, but atleast I'll go out knowing the myriad of plans that were available to me. LOL

If you didn't play with the group, you are among the millions of people who didn't win either - what's the problem.

But if you decided not to play with your group when the jackpot is at it's highest, you're just a fool.

It's not YOUR pool if it didn't have any of YOUR money in it to purchase the tickets. Congratulate your co-workers and get back to work.

If the truth was know you've probably missed some good  opportunities before but you just didn't know anyone who profited from them.  A least now you rubbed elbows with some millionaires.

I don't play in pools for this reason!!  I think you get lucky like this once mabey twice in your entire life, so if it happens when you forgot your dollar to throw in the pool your out of luck. I don't think I would have to find another job because the winners would eventually quit anyways.  But then again I would also laugh/cry because of the irony.  I always cringe when I have to stand in line with everyone when the jackpots get huge because after the "When I win I'm going to buy" conversations die down,  it ALWAYS get to the "if I win then I'm going to split the winnings with you, will you split with me?" conversations. The clerk always says "if you win you gonna split it with me?".  Like everyone says yes, but knowing me the one time I say sure he's gonna have a lawyer waiting when I go to lotto HQ with my winning ticket wanting half.  So I would feel like thisDupe Alert

I feel that if I didn't play & they won, that was my chance to win & I blew it BIG time.

You can't honestly expect to get a piece of the pie when you did not invest in THAT specific pool for that specific draw.  It's ludicis (sp) to think that you could give them $3.00 & collect even $10.00.

I HAD MY CHANCE & BLEW IT!!!!!!!!!!

Those people that say hire a lawyer would get your feelings seriously hurt if I had been one of those that had given money in that pool.

You either play in pools every week, or never. It is that simple. You don't want to have to try and live with yourself after your pool wins big and you were too cheap to play that week.

As I said in another thread. Burned out.  Two big ones in a row that went on for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. Wheres the logic of bailing water at the six inch level, wait until it reaches ten inches.  Time to rest for a while.  Wake me when they hit the $250M mark.

                              Cheers
