Anyone here give out lottery tickets for Christmas? I usually don't, because I just could not stand wondering whether or not I am actually giving out the big prize that I have been waiting myself so long for. As a dedicated lottery player this is really hard to do. Probably like a smoker giving away their last pack of cigs.
But wouldn't it be strange if you did give out a multi-million dollar winning ticket, and it was to the right person who actually at least shared it with you, and you both were set for life? I could see something strange like this happening due to expressing generosity over self-greed. Would be very strange indeed especially if you never were able to win on your own, then the winner is a ticket that was a gift.
Reminds me of that episode on The Honeymooners where Ralph had a fight with Norton over a raffle ticket for a new TV that he gave him, then won. I love that show still. Kinda like today's society, where they would probably try to sue the person they gave the ticket to after finding out it actually won.

Makes for a nice stocking stuff for a family member who might have been hit hard by job closings.
A ticket is a gift- Theirs to do with what they want. I'd want them to win! That way I put a smile on their face and didnt give them a dud gift.
My boss hands out scratch offs each holiday season, and never once has he asked for a cut in it. In fact its become sort of a side bet which staff member would get the highest win! Its rather fun! The comments some folks make when scratching the winnings is hilarious!
thanks for the Honeymooners reference. That show was your classic slapstick tickle your funny bone humour!

Yes I give scratch off tickets and I have given them to others and they have won a nice prize on them, like 50 bucks one time! Scratch tickets don’t have multi-million prizes that I know of! Again I am able to give numbers for others all the time and if I can give them a winning scratch ticket then It was meant for them to have it not me. I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and when I give, I always get back ten fold! You must give to receive, this works in all aspects of life. I would give my last pack of cigs to someone too! They Make More! LOL

I meant also by "multi-millions" by giving someone a few powerball QPs, or any other jackpot ticket, not necessarily "Scratchers." I used to see people give others like 10 powerball QPs, as well as scratchers. Scratch offs seem to be the most common though, probably because the giver can actually deal with the return if the person they give it to wins!

Personally, I don't give out lottery tickets as holiday gifts for a couple reasons.
1. They only last a few seconds, as opposed to a movie or CD, which can last a lifetime.
2. What if nobody wins anything? Then you've spent all that money, and technically not given anyone anything for the holiday.
Lottery tickets make nice presents for those that you are not really close with, but for family and close friends, you want to get them something that will last more than a few seconds.
I've redone my website. Go to www.dr-ew.com. I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff. Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

The only lottery tickets I give as Christmas presents will be as presents to myself. Normally I buy one Powerball ticket, but when Christmas rolls around, I will also buy one of every one of the other online games except pick 3 and pick 4 (ie, Hot Lotto and Iowa's $100,000 cash game).

I would never give a lottery ticket as a gift and wouldn't want to receive one either. But if I did, I wouldn't expect anything back if it was a winner. That would be like giving someone cookware and expecting her to cook for me. A gift shouldn't have strings attached.

I gave some scratch-off tickets to a friend once and she won $25 bucks. I also received a bunch of scratch-offs for christmas one year. But I really prefer not giving tickets to others for christmas, most just don't want that type of thing.

absolutely not. never, never, never. a lottery ticket costs, what, a buck? a couple bucks? a gift is more about the thought you put behind it than the actual gift itself. there is absolutely no thought behind giving lottery tickets. the lottery tickets you give are more likely to be losers than winners... then what?
the only way to give lottery tickets as gifts is if it's part of a package deal. like here's this this and this, and oh yeah, here's a lottery ticket or five for the major big draw that just happens to fall around the christmas season every year without fail. still thoughtless, but less tacky than giving a lottery ticket and only a lottery ticket.
as for someone who's hit upon hard times, the best gift would be a job lead. but not everyone has those, or even wants to put their neck that far out on the line for someone else. and if you're in a really hard hit area, where everyone is on the bubble... :( i don't even want to think about that.
having said all this, this would have to be the year when someone gets that special lottery ticket which happens to be a jackpot winner. i'll be happy for giver and receiver. there's only one jackpot, and somebody has to win it. why not? but it won't change my mind about all those umpteen more persons who didn't win... and didn't put any thought behind the 'gift'.

I've given lottery tickets for years. Never gave one that won over $10.00. I always felt disapointed that they didn't win more. Mostly scratch-offs. But I have given jackpots games too. Usually 1 ticket. Maybe as high as 5 tickets. But always in addition to a regular gift - not in place of.

Funny once my friend gave his brother one of those prank lottery scratchers for Christmas. It was a $100,000 dollar instant winner. He sat there and stared at the ticket for awhile, you could also see him wanting to burst because he assumed he won. He then casually put the ticket in his pocket and said "Ah another loser." LOL! I am assuming he had no intentions of letting the giver know that he had won, and no intentions of splitting it. I guess he did not trust his brother, the giver of the alleged $100,000 winner. What a sneaky little (fill in the blank)
I heard he was pretty ticked off later on after reading the fine print. I also do not believe he tried to sue for the amount.

ahh, now that's a feel good story. what a jerk  then again, those prank cards are so obviously prank cards, the fact that he was fooled in the first place shows where his mind was. how deserving.

I had a buddy give me one of those once. Trouble was, it was in a dark bar and I couldn't tell it was a "winner" - everyone at the table had to do some talking to get me to check it more carefully!

I guess it was not that obvious to him, as he rarely ever played the lottery. I still like the one episode on Full House where they use an old tape of a previous drawing to make Joey think that his ticket won, which they then reveal their joke and Jesse throws it in the fireplace I think, only for Joey to say that there was no tape in the VCR, and reversed the entire joke on them! That gave me an idea to want to try something like that out on my gambling addict friend.
By placing a tape into his VCR about 10 minutes prior to the actual drawing, commercials and all, of the previous drawing. Of course I would already have played the numbers that did come up for that drawing, so they all would match of course. Hopefully he would not notice the date of the ticket right away, but if he did not see the last drawing, it could still work. I noticed they do not always say the dates on TV, but sometimes they do. I did not try the plan though, as I know he would have been highly ticked, but rolling in laughter later.
Just my luck though that the jackpot numbers would repeat themselves for the first time ever in lottery history, and he would have the last laugh.
