Thanks, trucritic. I suppose I just haven't been reading the threads as much as I once did.
I find this particular thread fascinating. It's given me a lot of head-shaking, puzzling and chuckling this morning, and I'm tickled pea green that it was posted, even if it's a fraud.
Frankly, I don't believe it is. I think the person is sincere and doing the best job he/she's able to do at communicating an experience that's both frightening and upsetting. Maybe actually trying to find someone who knows an answer to a question posed in a way that makes it awfully difficult to comprehend.
I've been puzzling over why I find the post so intriguing. Maybe it's the realization that this person speaks a different language from the one I do, thinks in a different language, and lives in a different reality from one I'm ever going to know. Reading that post repeatedly is an experience that results in something of a reality shift for me. A realization that, although that person lives in the same nation I do at the same time I'm living in it, somehow we aren't on the same planet.
For me it's an exhilarating moment to discover I have more in common with someone who lived in China a century ago than I have with a segment of citizens of my own nation in 2005.

I agree with Rip..I am thinking that this person was not born here..I can understand it..She is asking if she will have to go to jail because her boss said she stole some tickets..She is also asking if she can prove she didn't and how. How easy it is for us to criticize others...in other country countrys, (under-developed) if the boss said u did it, u did it.
If you know your number is going to hit, have patience and then KILL IT!

I couldn't read the post but I think I know what she is asking..Yes, the lottery commission can probably do a check, but if u run the register, the only thing u have to do is run a "sales" for that particular time period. If you ran $60.00 worth of tickets, it will show. What we used to do was to have the person clear out their drawer and count the money that they had and one of the managers would run us a total sales tab to show us exactly what we should have. We would count all scratch offs and lottery tickets sold and add it to what we started with. That way we could get a correct figure.
That is exactly how it is done...
Some people do not know that the printed pick3/ pick4 tickets are accounted for as well as the scratch-offs..
Stealing lottery tickets can you in a heap of trouble...

This post sadden me this morning. LP had always been a place to relax.. like a second family.
I was shocked to see my LP family laugh at a new member who doesn't or cannot speak our language.
Guilty or not.. this person seem frighten to what her /his future holds..
She felt comfortable enough to ask the forum for advice.. and what happen? She was laughed in the face.
I for one hope things go ok for her, guilty or not.

I think it's overstating things to suggest anyone's laughing. I'm certainly not. I'll admit to being delighted with the post, but I'm not laughing at all.
As for hoping it turns out well, the best I can do is hope it turns out appropriately. You pays your money and takes your chances. If the person's innocent I hope the powers recognize it and don't make her spend a lot of money on an attorney.
If guilty, I hopes in favor of niksbabygurl learning not to do such things in the future.

My Mother Always Said To Me .If you do not have anything good to say, then do not say anything at all! Good Advice, I would say!
And I personally, I did not know the answer to her question, however, got the basic Idea of what she was trying to ask. I would assume that if something was stolen intentionally or by accident that they will go by your previous criminal record to determine what would be the verdict.
If it was an honest mistake then they will take that into account, and if not again its up to a judge to decide.

Good Luck!
My mother always said I'd never be happy unless I shot someone's eye out with a BB gun, though I never managed to do it.
Maybe niksbabygurl need to seek the wisdom of her mother on this one.

I beg to differ with you. Here in Florida, 9 out of 10, (literally) stores I go into, the cashiers immediately start speaking spanish to me. They assume I'm hispanic, and don't take the time to figure it out before they speak. Some of them give me dirty looks when I tell them I'm not hispanic, as if I was lying to them.
We have people in this country who are learning the english language, while they work hard for their families, but there are interest groups out there who want to put a stop sign in 30 languages out there on the streets. It's impossible to accomodate every person out there.
Miscommunication might have been the case here, and maybe what was the root of her problem, when dealing with that person in the store. I had a similar problem last year with a cashier who insisted that I said " premium car wash". I told her I never get premium car washes. Never did in the past, so it's impossible and you heard me wrong. This exchange went on for two minutes, and I never went back to that store. This is just one example I can give you from a long laundry list. Last week I asked a girl behind the pizza counter if the oven was still on, considering that they shut it off when it nears closing time. (I don't want my slice nuked). She said no. As I was leaving I saw a guy order a slice, and she took it the oven and put in. I was furious.
I have nothing against immigrants. In 1971 I was one of them. It's just my opinion that if you work in a place that involves communication on a regular basis, it should be a requirement to speak english enough to maintain a decent conversation, and problems don't have a chance to arise.
When I was working for a market research company in NYC, we lost a $100,000.00 a year catalog account because the client heard the young girl who was from another country say the word photography, as photo-graphie. The list goes on and on.
God forbid someone who is allergic to peanut butter, asks the cashier at the bakery if a particular cake has any peanut oil, or related ingredients in it, and the person says no, leaving the customer to end up in a hospital or the morgue.

Nor am I laughing at her.
I have the greatest respect for foreigners. Making a trip, that in most cases involves a large distance from their homeland. My grandparents made that same trip.
I also can understand having a problem related to lotteries and naturally seeking some answer.
However, I expect people to make an EFFORT to communicate in proper grammar and spelling on the net. If you are in America, learn to speak and write the language. My grandparents and countless others did.
I can't say whether she is from another Country but I have seen plenty of posts by people that use English as their second language. And in all cases it did not fall to this level.
I personally have a dictionary within 6 feet of my computer - and make use of online dictionaries as well. Because it is important. Do I make errors - you bet! But I also make the effort to do the best I can. This person doesn't. She is smart enough to run a register in a store. She is smart enough to run her computer. She is witty enough to come up with a screen name with typical chat room spelling. She was smart enough to find the Lottery Post Forum. And then smart enough to set up a poll and relate her problems.
Given the worst case scenario whether it is a low IQ or someone from a non-English Country all she had to do was spend some time and make the effort to communicate in some acceptable fashion.
Most of the words used could probably be found right on this site - she could copy and paste them in place. She could have used an online dictionary or spell checker - she didn't.
As to whatever legal problem she might have, I hope it works out for her. Especially if she is innocent. It is far too easy to get mixed into the legal system - just because someone accuses you. I have seen plenty of cases cross my desk when I was working.

I work with immigrants all day (at TB), and I am proud to say that they are some of the best workers (and friends) there are. They do what they're supposed to, and they don't talk back. They may not be able to speak the language, but that shouldn't be a deterrent to at least trying to speak your mind about something that could land you in a lot of trouble.
I admit, I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard when I read it for the first time (incorrect spelling just looks funny to me), but I understood where this person was coming from and how hard it can be to communicate your message to someone when you have no idea of what you are "speaking." I went to Germany on a foreign exchange trip when I was 17 when we were supposed to go to Spain (the trip got cancelled because of riots, I guess). Imagine my surprise that the spanish I had taken for 3 years would be of absolutely NO USE in this country and I would have to speak German to get my point across. I ended up speaking SIGN LANGUAGE the whole time because I had no idea of the conversations around me (although I did get some words and the entire numeric system down ).
I, for one, hope that she can prove her innocence using that computer. After all, computers don't lie. Well, maybe.
