Buying the winning numbers is the only luck that I need.

I live very close to 2 7-Elevens sold big winning tickets, $100 mil, but no big winning since. A banner "Big winner was made here."  or something like that placed in front of the store. I think it just attract more buyers.

I used to drive 40 minutes to buy tickets at a favorite store, Nob Hills Food. And, I also drove to Oregon 2 times to play Power Ball tickets with advance play. Now thinking about the long distance, I don't want to sit in my cars for 6 hours to Oregon again. I rather spend the money on Mega Millions or Superlotto than on gas.

Coin Toss:  So location, location, location is true.  I mean, if you've got a lemonade stand on the corner of a deserted road where nobody ever travels, you won't make any money selling lemonade. So maybe being in a city where there are millions of players every day increases your chances of picking a winner if you play quickpicks.  Again, since it's random, people will argue that it doesn't really matter. However, you and I have noticed a significant amount of winners in the cities like Chicago and Miami which makes sense.

This probably goes for Florida, too. Granted the bulk of the population in Illinois is in Cook County and the "collar counites" (those surrounding Cook County, where Chicago is) but it seems like nobody 'downstate' wins.

Of course, there's a joke in Chicago that anything south of 183rd street is 'downstate'.

(There's also a saying in Illinois that "the dog barks in Chicago and wags its tail in Springfield, i.e., nothing south of Springfield exists).

I thing the thing is that percentage wise, the number of winners compared to the number of tickets played somehow turns out to be way disproportionate for those of us not in the 'big city'.

That's why I thought it ironic that someone in Ny was mentioning NY not winning Mega Millions jackpots.

It would be interesting to see the state's lottery revenue broken down from Chicago or Miami and 'other'.

Oy vey, that sounds like pumpi76 said it!

I don't think it matters. The Seattle area is the biggest in WA state yet produces very few winners. Most seem to come from very small towns.

Apparently it matters, or doesn't matter, state by state. But I'd say this thread definitley leans towards Chicago and Miami for Illiois and Florid.
