Avoid making promises to give money or to buy things for others.  You will never here the end of it.

If you're living among people who are asking you to buy them things and you don't like saying NO now that you have some money then MOVE to some place where people buy what they want themselves or they don't know you.

 * you don't need to buy more tickets, just buy a winning ticket *

Ex girlfriend, ex boyfriend, ex wife or husband.

It might be easier to change your name or move!  I don't know why, but this just made me think of when Drew Barrymore became famous and her estranged father, John, who had disappeared into alcoholism and drug addiction, contacted her for the first time in years and asked for money.

Avoid war zones, sides of tall buildings, parachuting, high voltage, TNT, circus side shows, food imported from China, walking along highways, driving drunk, carrying lots of cash, not having an ICE in your cell phone, Rosie Odonnell, walking under ladders, salty snacks, Hugo Chavez, unfiltered water, green eggs and ham, angry beavers, microwaving with cellophane, eating rare meat, deep sea diving, poisonous snakes, etc. But most of all, people that you haven't seen in years that start showing up again.  LOL jarasan

Avoid buying mansions and limos and any other extravagances. Remember you will have to upkeep all this stuff. It could drain your jackpot over time I would imagine.

Most of all---if you want to enjoy your money in peace just AVOID EVERYONE! Wink

Ain't that the truth.  When I first started to fantasize about winning the lottery, I said that I was going to buy a big mansion, over $ 9 million and about 3 cars.  After thinking about it for 15 mi utes, I thought about: the upkeep, taxes, home insurance, theft.  Now, I will be happy with a three or four-bedroom house and 2 cars.

Yep,  I used to dream about having a $20 million house on the coast of southern CA for the winter and a $10 million house somewhere in the mountains for summer.  I dreamed of chartering a private jet to move from one to the other each season, and for all my travel needs.  But I've scaled down my "needs" if I should win, too.

Even if I should win a record jackpot, I still won't buy a house for more than $750k.  Even in resort towns, you can get a really nice house with half acre or more for that price.  I might have 2 homes, one for summer and one for winter.  I'd spend a couple hundred thousand to get it/them professionally decorated, but no really expensive antiques or artwork or anything that I'd have to worry about losing in a fire or flood or to theft.  I'd probably get a Mercedes, but only one, and continue to drive my 1991 truck for most of my around-town trips till it completely dies then replace it with a Jeep or a Dodge Nitro or something.

Yep, I could be extremely happy living quite modestly for my means.

Sweet Lilly, my draw dropped when I read you could get half an acre for $750k! Where is that? My God, when I think of the small junk houses that go for $600k around here, that sounds like a dream come true!

Yeah, I guess that's why I was dreaming of a $20 mil house in CA.  lol

I'm in southwest Idaho, and you can get a really decent property in McCall for that price.  Maybe in Sun Valley too, but I haven't checked.  There are some resort towns in Utah around the SLC area that would be cool in the summer with prices in the same range. The winter home would probably be somewhere in AZ.  I've checked a couple places in central to southern parts of the state where they're going for that.

Edited to Add:  Now that I think about it, I haven't actually seen the houses in any of those locations.  I've just looked them up on real estate websites.  So it's possible they may have faults that aren't noted in the listing, but the photos sure looked nice, and I only searched for .5 acre or better.

It's possible I could have to pay a little more than I thought, but certainly not the $10 or $20 mil I used to have in mind.

The people where I've been buying my lottery ticket are sure going to miss me because I'd avoid playing any more lottery games. I like going to casinos and hitting the jackpot would mean I could go more often but would have no reason bet more and of course lose more. And besides I've never seen any table games or slot machines that pay what a lottery jackpot would.

Everybody agrees there are people that seem to unwisely spend their lottery jackpot winnings but it's a windfall, money they would never had, it's their money, and not money belonging to the players throwing away tickets to decide how the winner should spend it.

Oh, and I would probably avoid those girls I always see hanging around the casinos asking me if I want to party too.

Id do my darndest to avoid one relative....

                            Uncle Sam!!

Yet somehow Im sure he'd come knocking at my gilded door and expect his *unfair* share.

Other thing to avoid would be poor health. Get a check up more often.

Avoid any legal battles. Avoid having your family in jeopardy from your new famed wealth.

Avoid the urge to be guilted by churchs. God didnt create churchs, man did.

I say avoid those so called friends that you couldnt count on to help you out when you needed help. I have a little question I sort of ask myself if someone asks me for anything including cash. It is, would this person help me out. If I can answer yes, I help out. if it is questionable, I say sorry. As far as those church donations go. I dont remember anyone paying my bills when I needed help. All I heard was , they are praying for you! Alot of help that is when the bill collectors are on the phone 24 / 7.

                               Good Luck,
