A woman who had planned to spend a quiet Easter at home is $33 million richer after hitting the second largest Megabucks jackpot in history at a Nevada casino.

Slot machine maker International Game Technology says 38-year-old Rachael Renee Romanick hit the jackpot Sunday night at Terrible's Rail City in Sparks.

Romanick says a friend persuaded her to join him at the casino that night. She says she had been playing the machine for about 10 minutes when she landed the big prize.

The largest jackpot ever won was $39.7 million at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in March 2003.

IGT says it's pleased that the "life-altering prize" went to a local resident.

Thanks to Tenaj for the tip.

Congratulations I guess are in order....and if she is a smart woman, that would be the last time she enters a casino!  Or set limits on how often and how much she would spend at each visit (like no more than $1,000 or so a visit and no more than 4 visits a year).  Otherwise, what the good casino giveth...the good casino taketh away!!!  And that would suck royally to have been a multimillionaire and lose it all.

Heck one thing she could do is invest in all that foreclosed property around there in Nevada!  But I would buy it at very depressed prices because outside of the casinoes and night life in Las Vegas, why on earth would anyone want to go or live there?  I see Las Vegas more of a "pass through" place...nice to pass on through but definitely wouldn't want to live there.

I was just in Vegas last week.  I saw those Machines everywhere.  You have to play $3 a spin for the jackpot.  For the jackpot to get up to $33 million, which I am sure is an annuity but still, the odds have to be pretty staggering.  Congrats to her.  I didn't make it to Terribles, acutally never been there yet.

I hope that it is a lump sum !

Next year you would have to "share the wealth" with the Obama Regime !!!!!

I hope the Tea Partys are just the beginning of a taxpayer and citizens revolt against rouge spending !!!!!

Every progressive slot machine that I've ever seen with a multi-million dollar payout has small print on the machine that says it will be paid out over twenty (or more) years. Some casinos will offer the winner a cash option, though.

You are 100% correct about it being an annuity payout! And the kicker, it's payable over a period of 20 years! And here is something else to think about those so call progressive jackpots! Did you know for every dollar taken in they only put 10 cents toward the jackpot? Yes, it's true. But the jackpot for the one she hit starts at 10 million and goes from there. So, for every 3 dollars only 30 cents went toward the jackpot! What a scam that is! Just think how much had to be played in-order to get to that sum of 33 million as a payout.

I used to live in Las Vegas and I personally knew a gaming control officer and he told me how much of every dollar was put toward the jackpot! And for the Mega Millions game/slot machine they put 10 cents of every dollar toward the jackpot!

That's the thing that makes me mad about casinos...Why can't casinos pay MORE JACKPOTS LIKE THIS....The more jackpots they pay like this the better they'll look....Why does a measly 33 million dollars which the lottery gives frequently and scratchoffs too why is that sum such a big deal in casinos....Casinos need to create something that will give lots and lots of multimillion dollars jackpots like start selling scratchoffs particular to casinos, or take 5 cents extra of every dollars and create a jumbo jackpot or something......Not only do they need to create multimillion dollars jackpots but they need to create JUMBO MILLIONS DOLLARS JACKPOTS....

If casinos can create something that will give multimillion dollars jackpots like the lottery they will look appealing and make more money....They are very slow...Give away cars, houses, etc....This people are really slow...All they care about is themselves...

I think one of the reasons there aren't more big jackpots in Vegas is because they have to keep supplying the "little" jackpots to keep people there, sticking their money into the machines.

I actually won over $100 at a slot machine in Atlantic City on a first date with my hubby. We used the money to pay for a nice dinner, played another $20 each, then drove home. Figured the rest paid for the gas. So essentially, we broke even.

I'm hoping we'll hit an even bigger "jackpot" this year playing Powerball!

Those are some excellent sensible points you make regarding about how to increase the casino's bottom line. And with all the current doom & gloom about impending bankruptcies -they would pay some attention except for one major factor they have long been given a lisence to steal and it's created a bottomless insatiable pit called GREED.

"Avaritia facit Bardus" = Greed makes you (casinos )stupid!

I Agree! Congrat!!! to her, but greed is the corporal here.Yes Nod without GREED we wouldn't in the financial mess we are in today.

I heard the odds of hitting the jackpot on that machine is 1 in 49,000,000.

I think I read somewhere that the prize is paid off over a yearly period, not in a lump sum. What's the matter don't the casinos have enough money to pay off all the money at once??

congradulations. i am glad you won. I am waiting for the day that it becomes my turn reply so I can have some luck.
