Email response I got from the Florida Lottery regarding the terrible (worst ever) odds of 1:750 to hit $500 in the new $20 game, Super Millions.
"Play the Florida Lottery's newest $20 Scratch-Off game, SUPER MILLIONS, featuring more than $300 million in total cash prizes, including 12 top prizes of $3 million."
Dear Mr. J......
Thank you for writing the Florida Lottery. In response to your email, it is imperative that we address the issue you raise concerning fairness of Lottery games and particularly Scratch-Off games, as we realize that our customers are dependent on the complete integrity of the Florida Lottery. Knowing this, we apply constant due diligence in safeguarding the integrity of each Lottery game. The number of winning tickets seeded into each Scratch-Off game has not been reduced, nor have the odds of winning been tampered with or falsely advertised in any way. Moreover, since this and all lottery Scratch-Off games are seeded in a completely random fashion, they inherently allow for several winning or non-winning tickets to fall in a variety of sequences within each book of Scratch-Off tickets. This randomness, which allows for a purchase with consecutive non-winning tickets, does not invalidate the odds of winning or falsify their accuracy in any way. Though the publicized odds of winning for any game are reflective of a ratio of probabilities, they by no means provide a certainty for winning by purchasing a specific number of tickets. This in itself would nullify the randomness of the games. Since all Lottery games are random, every player has the same odds of purchasing a winning ticket.
As a responsive state agency, a big part of the Florida Lottery's efforts are to offer games with strong player appeal, and we are sorry that your experience in playing this game did not meet your expectations. Our customers are our number one priority, and while we understand your disappointment, we hope this information helps to alleviate your concerns regarding the fairness of Florida Lottery games.
