ttech10,no doubt that takeing things slowly is a good idea, all your ideas are good but #s2,3,4 take time #1 is the one i'm most interested in.

Yea I imagine that's where most people's plans are.

I just want to keep as low a profile as possible while still being able to enjoy the winnings, and so that one works out best. Of course given the amount the jackpot is now, I would fly out to NYC a few days after getting the money in the bank to get a condo. I'd still have to stay at the current residence until the end of the year, but once the year is up I'd be out of here ASAP, and I'd likely care a little less about keeping everything hush-hush so would do a big vacation for myself and friends in Vegas in December.

Like I've said before though, I'm sure if I ever actually had that money coming to me all plans would go out the window since that daydream would be a reality and instead of it being fun thoughts it would be real plans.

I find this thread interesting because everyone says they would move and don't care what people think.

I've lived here for over 10 years now. I have tons of friends and have no desire to move anywhere else. The schools are great and the town is amazing.

I've always thought I'd say that my great-Aunt Margaret died, so now we can add on to the house. As for a newer minivan (hey - I LOVE mine!), I might say that my financial advisor made some good investments for me, although, I'm really bad at lying and obviously, if I've done that well, they'll all have questions for me, like what did I invest in and who is my advisor? I still don't know how to answer those.

My other problem would be to make sure my spouse doesn't blab it all over town. He knows I want to keep it quiet, but thinks a few knowing might not hurt. Personally, I'd rather not.

if you win a JP and no one you know realizes it's you, freinds neighbors etc. how will you keep it secret ? if i were to quit my job tommorow,my neighbors would't catch on but it would raise some eyebrows at work.

How to keep it a secret? Thats easy. Keep your mouth shut. People quit their jobs all the time. What you could do is, just start complaining to your co-workers about how badly the boss is treating you and how your getting tired of it. Play it up, then one day just go off and tell them to take this job and shove it. Problem solved. Of course that will only work if the boss really is treating you badly. Or you could just tell them you got layed off, or you found a better job.

Remember, someone else was doing your job before you got there, and someone else will be doing it after you leave.

But before you do anything, first win the jackpot. LOL

I guess it works if you don't mind being cutoff from human-human interaction.

That's a reason NY is somewhere I really want to live some day. You may have to deal with how those people act, but I'd love to be able to walk out of my home (apartment/condo) and be able to instantly be near so many different people. I couldn't imagine trying to live off the grid away from other homes, I think I'd go insane. I can't stand being cooped up in the house for a weekend (even with 1-2 roommates).

Anyways about the 'keeping low profile', I'm in my phase where I think if I won today/tomorrow I'd be out in the next few days setting up a deal to drive off the lot in a new car (in this case it'd be a Mustang as the one I want is currently at a local dealership).

The great think about being a freelancer and working from home is that i dont really have coworkers so to speak. i have a good friend (since high school) who also works for the company and we talk all day long through IM though LOL.

I would simply give my 2 or 3 week notice (have to keep money coming in while waiting for THE money). Then, hubby and i would high tail it out of town with the animals!

I dont consider myself friends with my neighbors, though after we move i might let them take anything they want from the house that we left behind...
