only 10 mins away from the bridge from buffalo so we go all the time

I didn't buy any tickets. They don't use machines , you ask for a ticket and they pull a tray out and you pick one. I will take a picture next time I'm over.

I heard about something the other day that I'm curious to hear what you guys think about it or what you may have experienced....

I heard a story about a guy at work whom I don't know. (I know who he is, but I've never spoken with him.) I was told that the guy "won 400 bucks on a lottery ticket" (I don't know if it was a scratch off or an online game) and that they guy had trouble cashing it at more than one store.  Supposedly the guy ended up going to the NY Lottery's Fishkill, NY claim center and cashed it there. I'm told he complained about the stores not wanting to cash the ticket at the claim center and identified them to the person who worked at the claim center.

Apparently he was given various excuses by store clerks/managers/owners as to why they couldn't cash it.  Not that the wouldn't cash it, they said they "couldn't" cash it for various reasons.  I was told one store offered to give him the equivalent amount of his win in "tickets" but not the cash.

I've never known what it's like to cash a winner that's more than 50 bucks, so I've never run into this kind of thing, but I'm sure it happens. I also know that retailers are supposed to cash a winner up to a max of 600 bucks.  But do they??  Or how willing are they to do it???

I'm sure there are legitimate reasons why a store couldn't cash a winner at any given time. But being bounced from store to store with multiple stores saying they couldn't cash it??   Sounds like too much of a coincidence to me.  G5

About playing the lottery --  You will lose more than you win. Until you hit a jackpot.  Then everything changes!

have won $500 3 times now most of the gas stations and smaller news stations just do not have the money on hand to cash it so usually just go to the local supermarket (shop rite, stop and shop, etc.) and they cash it no problem

even if it is a $100 or $200 win some stores do not cash it - know in states that have a wawa (NY is not one of them) they have a maximum $100 limit on redeeming lottery tickets regardless of the state regulations (know PA is max $2500 u can cash at a retailer, pretty much every other state is $500, $599 or $600 because anything over $600 must be reported to the IRS regardless of whether you owe taxes on your winnings or not)

isn't it nice to say I've won 500 3 times.. But ur right 7 eleven wants to give you a money order some of the smaller store will do that to for anything over 50.00 pretty much if you win more then that just go to a supermarket with a service desk

yup never won more than that still looking for the claim center - and most 7/11s "claim" to never carry more than say $50 in cash in the draw especially after dark

have cashed $100 wins at non-supermarkets before and once cashed a $250 but 99.9% of the time $100+ would go to supermarkets

or 7/11 can just paypal me the balance and i can play draft kings with it because it pays out better than NY lottery

Yellowpig are you anywhere near the Resorts World Casino 110-00 Rockaway Blvd.   Jamaica, NY 11420 ?  They have a NY Lottery booth there.  I go there to cash in my large wins.

I posted this info a while back but stuff disappears .............I used to run these machines at a Mom & Pop store I talked the store owner to get a lottery machine in the store it would generate more business.  We both went to the class in Albany on how to operate the various types of bets etc....   the NYL says that when you become an agent you MUST pay out winnings that are up to $600 and less no questions asked . If an agent say they cannot payout they are full of Shi*  they normally say come back at end of day or later in the day they should have the cash on hand they take in lots of cash upfront from us players.  If in fact they refuse to pay you you can turn that store/agent in and they could lose their license and those lottery machines and even the scratch offs.  Those agents have to pay out if they can take your moolah then they can pay out the moolah.   To file a complaint call  518-388-3300  Schenectady HQ's and listen to the long menu it sucks but you can make life miserable for any of these slacker agents out there.

nice info mink and what if wawa or something decides to expand in NY and keep the $100 payout limit then the gaming commission won't let them have a license?

and aren't the commissions not that much on selling lottery tickets in the first place

meanwhile back to take 5 - have a feeling either 2 or 20 will appear tonight then again probably not since have been wrong about the 19 sum in win4 for the past 2 weeks
