When I win, I wouldn't want to "keep up with the Kardashians".  I would just buy a moderately more expensive home than I currently live in.  Why buy a multi-million dollar home when I plan to spend majority of my time traveling?  Why buy a home at all?  Well I would look to buy one that would enable me to rent out part of it.  So I am actually thinking about some of those foreclosed townhouses in Chicago would be good candidates.  That way, I would be getting some current return on my investment.  As for my traveling, I would set my annual travel budget based on ROI I achieve so as to not erode my principle.

If you are looking for a rental in Chicago you may want to try the West Humboldt Park area. You could easily get 10-12 room mates to take care out things while you are out traveling.

Not eroding any of you principal is smart too. Try some laddered bonds.

    mediabrat,

I wonder if the "Doomsday Preppers" are teaming up and buying such places as the one you mentioned, just a thought.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

Buying a mansion would not only require spending a lot of money to acquire it but paying a lot of real estate taxes and spending money on a small crew of people to maintain it as long as you owned it.  It's a great way to get rid of a lot of money fast if you have it but a waste of it if you don't enjoy that life style.

My thoughts exactly! Much better off investing into a more seasoned dwelling like this. You could probably move into this opportunity for around $50K.

Dump the rest of your winnings into a high yield money market/CD, and the interest would more than pay for your property tax, upkeep, utilities,

and much, much more! Thumbs Up

People always say red cars are cop magnets but I have never been stopped. Maybe it is the artist in me speaking, but all cars should be red! Not orangy red but true red.

wow I am mesmerized.  It reminds me of those electric red washers and dryers that cost a fortune.  I can't stop staring.

Buy some land and a house out in the wilderness. Spend the rest of my days riding atvs and enjoying nature.
