I am so sorry to hear that you missed playing your chosen numbers that day.
His story is sad but it's his own darn fault.
The players I fell sorry for are the ones that made it to the terminals, played their numbers, paid their money and missed winning the jackpot by one number. That happened to me back in 2002 with Ohio's Super Lotto Plus and I ended up paying taxes on $1500 instead of collecting a $11M jackpot and feeling I had my chance and blew it. The same thing is happening to hundreds of other players every year.
Feel sorry for those PB players who paid $2 for a PB ticket and miss winning the jackpot by one number when they match 5+0 and end up just getting $1M instead of a life changing jackpot.
Respectfully speaking RJ, I just cannot bring myself to "feel sorry" for someone who missed the PB jackpot by one number (5+0), to end up getting
"just" $1M. For many people $1M in of itself, could be very life changing.
The Ohio Super Lotto Plus I can understand, $1500 vrs $11M. It is sad to miss any lottery game by just one number however. Happened to me with
PB, back when the second prize was $200,000 (without a multiplier), which was still a very nice piece of change. By missing the PB #, I missed out
on a $115M jackpot. Anyhow for all those thousands of players who came so very close, you just keep moving forward, and continue to play.
That's water under the bridge, a new day is dawning.

I made one of the most stupid mistakes that I cannot get over. I wanted to share my story with other lottery players.
I had just lost my job in April. I always remember reading in the news how some lottery winners may have just lost their job, about to be evicted or in really dire straights. I kept this mind. I said to my self that would be wonderful if that happened to me. So I started playing different lottery games, scratch offs, etc. And they day I decided not to play my ship came in. On May 2, 2012 I went in the store to buy a lotto ticket. Because I did not have my regular playing card I asked for a $2 quick quick. I put the ticket in my envelop with the rest of my tickets. Lo and behold because I chose not go home and get my regular playing card, the numbers I always play came out. The numbers were 2 6 26 41 47 55. All I can do is talk about what I would do with my winnings. I look at this way: out of all the lottery players in New York, I had all the correct numbers. Hey, it could happen again. But I don't think so

I feel sorry for all of the lottery players that miss winning the big jackpot for whatever reason, including myself. We all play the lottery to try to win it eventually. Although, it could be their fault that they chose to play different that particular day, it is called taking the risk to try to get lucky and I sincerely wish him good luck next time in winning big.

When players always play the same numbers that's the risk they take on the nights they forget to play or for some reason can't play. It could have been worst too because players buying subscriptions or multi-play believing they won a jackpot could find out their subscription ended the drawing before.
I don't feel sorry for the QP 5 + 0 winners because that truly is the "luck of the draw", but I'll bet there are some interesting stories about why the self pick 5 + 0 winners missed the bonus number. Changing betting styles can be a risky proposition for either QPs or self picks too like getting 10 tickets with Powerplay when the ticket still cost $1 and changing the bet to 20 tickets without Powerplay when the jackpot topped $100 million. I'd feel more sorry for the player making an $800,000 mistake or those whose subscription ran out than someone playing QPs instead of their pet numbers for the same amount of money no matter the size of the jackpot.
