a little harsh don't you think?

Not really ! If we would still use Old West Justice our nationwide crime rate would be almost zero . Then their would be no need for Prisons which cost tax Payers Billions each year.

    Yes a little bit.

After all this is NOT saudia arabia.

If the stolen amount is over 500,000

then an appropriate sentences is a hard kick to the gonads every 5 hours, for 5 years.

If less then 500,000 and more than 999.00 then hanging should be 9 hours a day in this position,

for 9 months, with a hard kick in the groin every 27 hours.  (9+9+9)

(Of course women never steal, so this applies to only men)

then why did people commit crimes in the old west days if old west justice was so good?

The old west was violent, the violence that occurred was very different from what goes on today.   Two of the most common crimes today, robbery and burglary, were hardly of any consequence.  Compare crime rates of major cities today to Bodie, one of the most notorious towns in the old west.   Bodie was in fact violent, but acts of violence didn't affect most people.   The old, the young, the weak, and women were usually not harmed, because most violent acts happened between willing combatants, such as gamblers, miners, and the like.

You don't know your history very well do you.  America was hanging people in this country from its beginnings and well into the 20th century.   America oversaw the hangings of the nazi war criminals after the trials at Nuremberg.  Imagine if every county in America had a hanging day on the first Sunday of every month at the court house square at about 2pm to hang every convicted murderer, robber, rapist, & child molester after their appeal process was over.  Reminds me of Clint Eastwoods 1968 movie "Hang Em High".  Definitely bring all the children to let them know what happens to you if you grow up and commit vicious crimes against other people.  Bring the switch back on the kids at home.  Bring the paddle back on the kids at school.

Would crime go down?  You betcha.  Would liberty suffer? absolutely not.  I bet you could walk any street before a year was out and not get assaulted be it day or night.  Will all this happen?  Of course not!   We don't like gunsmoke, rawhide, or bonanza anymore.  We like friends, maury povich, and cheaters haha!

A murderer is a thief of life or do value a life less than you do material things?

No...but in some cases murder is excusable where there are no cases that I can think of where thievery is excusable...

Sorry didnt answer the question...I think thieves should have a hand amputated when they are convicted of stealing

This is exactly what they do across the waters today...and it works. If we had that type of punishment here, thieving would drop dramatically...if for no other reason than fear of losing the other hand, too.

So doing away with cruel and unusual punishment is a bad thing?

A CRIMINAL SHOULD NEVER BE "PUNISHED"...but the manner and instrument used in the commission of the crime should be reciprocated and redirected towards him e.g.

...a thief should lose a finger per incident, when he runs out of fingers, you go down to the toes.

...a rapist should be "half c***ed" for the first incident, and an inch per episode after that.

...a murderer should have the same instrument used on him-if you shoot somebody in the head, you get shot in the head.

...a peeping tom should have liquid hot pepper poured into his eyes per incident.

This might appear to be cruel, but I tell ya, if you tape $100 bill to your front door, come back 2wks. later, and it is still there.

Way too many lawyers in this society...sometimes the victims are screwed, and treated as if they were the criminals, and criminals have the audacity to talk about their rights. Something's got to give.
