What's up lottery managers and lottery big wigs.  What can be done so other states can at least win the second tier $1,000,000 prize, instead of the same states winning over and over again?

If lottery executives could FIX it so people in "other" states win more often, I wouldn't play.

It's RANDOM. It should stay that way.

rcbbuckeye, I hear you, but you live in a winning state.

Hope for a miracle. The town that sold last nights NY second place ticket only has about 350 people.

Redstang, just wondering, the town is an average town or high income town?  It does show that any place can win, but I would like to wake up and see other states as the winning state.

When applying odds against matching 5 numbers to the total sales, the average is 1 PB five number match for every 5,153,633 tickets sold. Each individual PB state is responsible for paying all secondary prize payoffs and state lotteries like in North Dakota only sold 52,040 tickets for the 6/5 drawing. Just based on the odds against winning, ND should expect 1 five number match every year (100 drawings).

Stack47, but has that happen, ND winning a 5 number match every year?

Rhode Island won 2 PB jackpots within a 1 month span back in 2012. One of them was a huge one, about $338 Million if I remember correctly.

We also had a $5 Million winner here in MM earlier this year.

That's based on an average of 50,000 tickets sold every drawing and over time the probability is if ND maintains that average, they will average one five number match every year. There were five number matches on 4/2/2011, on 3/13/2013, and another on 9/21/2013. That's three five number matches in three years.

New York averages over 1 million tickets sold for every PB drawing so it's likely that state will produce on average, one five number match every five drawings.

If you read the rules MUSL only handle the jackpot potion of the games, the rest of the games and prizes are the responsibility of the each state.  If your state wants more local winners of the lower tier prizes then perhaps they should run promotions to sell more tickets.  Ohio has a buy two get one free for MegaMillions tickets when the jackpot is under $100M on draw nights between 7:30PM and 10:45PM.

RJOh, that would be a go idea to get more people to buy lottery tickets.  It just feels that less people are excited about playing PB and MM's these days.

may-be more people might be playing their own state games instead.

Ohio have extended slots at its race tracks and opened new casinos in all its major cities so lotteries aren't the only way for losers to gamble their money away.

You have posted this before I don't understand why you are so worried about what states win.  If I don't have the winning ticket in my hand it doesn't make me feel any better if someone in my state wins.  The lottery must remain random or we would all have to stop playing.  Play your state lottery the odds of someone winning from your state will be greater.

It's not that I'm worried, it's just that I'm tired of seeing the same places win the jackpot or the second tier prize.  And, I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Saylorgirl hit the nail on the head. It's all you ever post about. The places that sell more tics, will have more winning tics OVER time.

Play your state game, you will always have a winner in your state.

How do you think state lotteries can control second tier prize winners when the numbers are drawn in another state? Do you think before you say the stuff you say?
