I suppose so, but even if someone knew your name and wanted to try to rob you or find you in order to attempt to bilk you out of your money, they can't do that if they can't find you. I still do not understand why anyone thinks "lying low" or "getting outta Dodge" until the dust settles would be such a major inconvenience. They remind me of actors who wanted to be rich and famous, yet get furious with the paparazzi for taking photos of them while they're out in public. You cannot have it both ways, there's almost always bad things that come with the good. "Into each life some rain must fall."

I would concede that there are instances where someone might not want to move or would not wish to interrupt their children's schooling, uproot them or would not want to quit their job, but I think most of us who dream about winning the lottery would not have those problems. That said, it puzzles me that people knowing and willingly accepting that their life is going to change after winning, yet still being so resistant to making a few more changes to protect themselves.

According to Google, I am way off. A common first and last name like Michael Smith is more like 40,000 in the U.S, not millions. :)

I have a fairly unusual last name - so much so that other kids would make fun of it, alter it a bit, and when we'd play away games in football, the announcers would mangle the name, too. Even so, there are quite a few in the U.S. with my last name, several of other races. (men, not just women taking their husband's name) And, get this - I live in a small town in the TX Panhandle, but there's another guy in Amarillo that has the exact same full name, plus another in Denton, TX.

Whiskey with an "E" or whisky without? Both have caused me some DISTRESS in my life, but sometimes it was because I drank to ease the stress.

If I won a big lottery, I would hire a lawyer and a personal security expert before coming forward. I play by subscription in Illinois so I would hope they don’t make my name public until I come forward.

The lottery is public domain, and most lotteries, like here in New York, will publish your entire name and the town where you live, making even worse and winners subject to all kinds of harassment, threats and dangerous liaisons. Thats why I prefer to play games like Pick 10, if you win a jackpot, no name, just the store where the winning ticket was sold. I could win the Pick 10 20 times and no name of location published about the winner

In states where winners can't be anonymous other people (lawyers?) represent the winner at any necessary press conference etc.....they also shelter the winner as far as solicitations, news people and others go.

Kind of a jackpot winners' version of the Witness Protection Program.

I really like this idea a whole lot!! PLUS, people seem to forget that you can be somewhat anonymous by forming a trust before you claim your winnings through an attorney, then claim the winning AFTER the trust is setup, choose a name like you would for a business and thats it. You're anonymous

I do like the idea of a Witness Protection like thing to protect Lottery Winners like at least one person suggested on here! :D

"What's your ADDRESS?" May be the CREEPIEST question EVER asked to a Lottery Winner! O.O WTF?

At first, I found the one digit away draws kind of amusing, but now I am PISSED! 15 or 16 times I was off by just one digit in recent times!🤬 No longer find this amusing, it's making me REALLY angry now!🤬
