selling lottery tickets in obscure places will help business 3 ways.

1. they sell tickets

2. if a jackpot is won they get a percentage

3. increased business from the notority

Congratulations to the jackpot winner in New York. I didn't know why the U.S. Virgin Islands play Powerball.

I guess that would be true if states won the lottery, but they don't.  People do.

Actually, according to the population statistics, I don't think people from CA and NY win as often as they are "supposed" to (again, according to the probabilties/odds).

I beg to differ. The states win the lottery day in and day out.

NySlugger777, how do you deduce that from what you have posted?

you are right though, they beat the odds.

I use a mix of QPs and My picks to try and win.

If it was a QP it would have said  "(QP)"  on the website.

Yep that is right Anytime the Jackpot is won by Quick Pick the Ofiicial NY Lottery website will let you know by putting (QP) in the payout information area, so this jackpot winner "DID NOT" use quickpick since theres no "QP' in the First Place Prize payout information area for that drawing on the nylottery.org website.

The person who won this jackpot won selecting their own set of numbers! However for the same draw someone else won "2nd" prize by matching the first five numbers but not the Powerball. The person who won that 2nd prize for that draw ( $200,000.00 ) did use the quickpick  option since the "(QP)" is listed in the payout info area for the 2nd prize.

Not that you can always tell but unless someone was driving their Mercedes across town to do their laundry...It sounds like blue collar working poor person won the jackpot..Which almost makes up for someone in NY "Taking" my Jackpot again!!  LOLDisapprove

NJ, NY, CA, OH & VA residents win most of the megamillions jackpots.

MA has one once since I started paying attention and that was back in 2004.

                    That money's gone fo ever
