Date to be announced; makes up for machine error today

By Todd Northrop

ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia lottery officials announced that a bonus drawing of the Cash 4 game would be forthcoming, due to a mechanical error in Friday's midday draw.

During a review of the Friday, June 3, Cash 4 midday drawing, Georgia Lottery officials determined that a technical malfunction occurred with a ball machine.  To make up for the error, the Georgia Lottery will conduct a bonus Cash 4 drawing on a date to be announced, giving players an extra chance to win.

The Cash 4 Midday lottery results Friday were 8557, and all winning tickets for that number will be paid out, as usual.

"We are very serious about the security and integrity of our games," said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco. "We regret that the technical malfunction occurred, and we believe that giving our players an extra opportunity to win is the fair thing to do."

According to the Georgia Lottery, over 2,700 live drawings are conducted each year, and there are many steps that go into a successful Georgia Lottery drawing for each one.

The ball sets for each game are randomly selected and certified by outside auditors.  Each draw machine and ball set used is placed through a series of pre-drawing tests to ensure the absolute randomness of the results.

Even though the actual drawing takes less than 60 seconds, the entire drawing process consumes approximately three hours.

All winning numbers for the Georgia Lottery can be found each day at Lottery Post's Georgia Lottery Results page minutes after the draw takes place.

Sounds like the machine might be worn out from all the pre-drawing tests.

LOL....

Though I'm not thoroughly convinced that pre-draws take anything away from the player.  Testing a sample of a random even should produce similar, although different, results to testing a random event.  Essentially, I'm saying, even though pre-draws effect the results (as in, changes what they would have been) I'm not convinced that pre-draws break apart trends as much as I'm convinced pre draws just cause different trends to appear....  If there was a system that could beat a lottery with no pre draws consistently, it should also beat a lottery with pre draws, although I'm pretty certain none exists.

I don't know if that was clear at all, partly because I haven't slept more than 4 hours any night this week, but just felt like expressing my 2 cents on pre draws.

LOL is right!

I agree on the random sampling being better than the pre-tests.  If Tenessee had done that when they switched over to computerized drawings, they may have discovered the faulty drawing computer program a month earlier.  (Then again, if they stuck with real drawings, it may not have happened at all, and they might even be making more money today.)

I'm a little confused by what you mean.  What's the difference between random sampling and pre-tests?  I thought my post may have been confusing, what I was referring to is that if you do pre-tests, and only used statistical analysis on those "real" draws, it should be just as effective as if you used every draw, including the pre draws as long as no error was found in the machines during those tests.

Although, I completely agree with the elimination of computerized drawing, not through federal law (on principle and constitutionallity) but by petitioning your state... it would lead to better sales.  NJ, who doesn't use any computerized draws gets almost 10% of it's revenue from the lottery.....  I think that's a result of two things A) Trust B) higher costs of living/better pay....

At least I trust the NJ lotto.  And evidently so do a lot of other people.

What I mean is that it's possible to determine if the drawings are being conducted fairly and randomly by looking at the numbers drawn over time.  The whole pre draw thing is overkill IMHO, and was concocted by the big accounting/auditing firms, applying typical auditor overkill.  Like shooting a mosquito with an elephant gun.

3 hours to draw a daily number seems idiotic...i guess they finished filming deliverance II down in that hick state and had nothing else to do.. i thought they hated gambling in that bible belt state (no horse racing allowed) but they let the poor peanut farmers buy lottery tickets...

Look who's talkin about hicks. How many people in Westborough, 3900?

Then you've had to put up with the Kennedy's all these years. Yes Nod

And then you have the distinction of being the only state that went for George McGovern? LOL

And wait a minute Slick, hold it right there. How about Michael Dukakis? LOL

You wanna put down the great state of Georgia when you gave us Dukakis to vote for for President? LOL

You wanna know what Dukakis sounds like to me?

It sounds like something you tell a toddler when you put him on the toilet to toilet train him. Dukakis! Dukakis, little Johnny! Dukakis! Green laugh

You got no bonafides to be puttin' down Georgia, son.
