The popular Irish seaside town of Lahinch, Co Clare is buzzing with excitement after someone bought the winning lottery ticket from Saturday's draw worth more than €6 million at a local supermarket.

Kennedy's Centra on Back Lane in the town sold the winning €4 Quick Pick ticket worth €6,158,375 (US$8.2 million) on Friday.

The winning numbers were: 4, 11, 16, 33, 43, and 45, with bonus number 10.

News of the massive win spread quickly through the town which is a popular destination for tourists, surfers and weekend holidaymakers.

"That's fantastic news," said Michael Vaughan owner of Vaughan Lodge and restaurant in the town.

But he said it's anyone's guess who the winner is as the population of the town swells each weekend with thousands of visitors.

"This time of your there's around 6,000 or 7,000 people here for the weekend so it could be anybody," he said.

"It's not me anyway," he added.

Paul Holland, barman at O'Looney's pub, said whoever the winner is, the town will be celebrating.

"That's going to make someone very happy," he said.

"There's going to be a bit of excitement around the place."

Robert Kennedy, owner of Kennedy's shop which sold the winning ticket, could not be reached for comment.

If the winning ticket was drawn on saturday and the lottery office is probably closed on saturday and sunday, just how do they expect the winner to turn the ticket in so soon?Give the lottery office time to open up!

In Europe they are so jumpy about claiming a jackpot quickly.  Then they always complain that their lottery winners go broke.

Haha, yea I have read quite a few stories where lottery winners go broke. One guy won like 2M and thought he was all of a sudden a huge winner spending it on cars and even trying to start his music career and he went bust and sold his story to the newspaper.

Another guy bought loads of cars and smashed them up driving them into each other and drugs etc and now he works for 300 GBP a week since he went broke.

Another girl won like 1.5M and went broke from drugs and stuff like that

Easy come easy go.... No Pity!

The lotteries can afford to publish a "guide/roadmap for winners" not legal advice, and hand them out with the check, so that if you squander your loot, you have nobody but yourself to blame. A million does not go as far as it used to.

That's what I like about Irishmen.

Anything that happens, the whole town gets together and gets drunk.

Wake up with a hangover from hell and no idea where your ticket has got to. Bash

The winner must be taking his time before showing up. It will be nice to plan first before claiming the prize. There were times when the winner gets so excited in claiming prizes he end up buying unnecessary things. So let's give the winner time to thingk but I hope the winner will not let his ticket expire. :)
