$1 million southern Indiana Powerball prize to expire

PowerballPowerball: $1 million southern Indiana Powerball prize to expire

Rating:

Winning ticket purchased in April at Circle K in Jeffersonville

INDIANAPOLIS — Do you remember what you were doing April 10 of this year? If you were in Southern Indiana six months ago and purchased a Powerball ticket, you might want to drag out your spring jacket and check the pockets.

A $1 million Powerball prize won in the Hoosier state in the April 10 drawing is about to expire. The ticket was purchased at Circle K at 3830 Hamburg Pike in Jeffersonville, Ind., just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky.

The ticket matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number, in the Wednesday, April 10 drawing — and is set to expire on Oct. 7, 2013.

The winning numbers in the April 10 drawing were: 1, 36, 40, 52, and 53, with Powerball number 20.

The ticket holder has until 5:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Oct. 7 to present the winning ticket to Hoosier Lottery officials at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters at 1302 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis. The ticket holder should sign the back immediately and contact Hoosier Lottery Customer Service.

Powerball prizes must be claimed in the state in which they were purchased. Powerball tickets purchased in Indiana expire 180 days from the date of the drawing. Profits from the sale of Powerball in Indiana stay in Indiana.

Yep, probably another lost "auto pick" by someone who lost the ticket before checking it?

Come on person, "Find it and cash in"! I hate these tales of no "cashing in". Unbelievable too many times.

Yeah-some people put their money on the counter get a ticket and then forget about it altogether. Probably threw away the ticket in the dark along with the empty cigarette pack that was taking up space in the top shirt pocket.
        What a loss.

I've know of people who buy tickets and are too lazy to check them unless they hear somebody locally won big.  Unless they suspect they won more than a few dollars, they don't bother to check.

It would be really sad if the money is never claimed.

Wasn't it Indiana that holds the record for largest unclaimed JP? $50+ mil, at least I think that's what LCML said.

If they know they won they would be back. They clearly just don't know they won. I don't get why people don't check there tickets? Why buy one? So stupid. lol

I wonder if the winner was able to claim his prize or the ticket just expired? It's unfortunate because there are so many players hoping to win the lottery, and when someone do, they weren't able to claim their prizes. I think it will be better if they will have a system wherein they could identify the identity of the player upon purchasing the ticket, therefore he doesn't need to show the ticket to claim his prize.
