Ohio Lottery

1 winner of $73.3 million

Somebody had to win it eventually.

The Ohio Classic Lotto ended a non-winning streak of more than 2-1/2 years this weekend, with one winning ticket sold for a $73.3 million jackpot.

Saturday's Classic Lotto numbers were 3, 8, 26, 28, 34, and 35.  The Kicker was 103479.

The lone winning ticket was sold at Grumpy Grandpa Get & Go Food in Ashtabula.  It was the first Classic Lotto winner since Dec. 7, 2011, which was for a $2.7 million prize.

After its long climb to more than $73 million, the jackpot reverts to $1 million for Monday night's drawing.

No more classic lotto for me unless it gets over $60M for now on.

At least Powerball/Mega Millions is more predictable for when it'll be hit.

I only need a couple of million and I'll be set for life. Preferably 6 or 7 million. I'd be set with 5 mill too.

Erzulieredeyes's avatarErzulieredeyes

I would be set for life on 1 - 3 million but I'm still not playing Classic Lotto ever again unless it gets to over 60 Million because I've wasted thousands of dollars in that 2.5 year frame. I know I'm wasting money at other lotto games too, but it's not as fun to play as Mega/Powerball because the Classic lotto game drags and drags and drags and drags before anyone ever hits it.

I dont get how the PB and even more so the MM's could be fun to play. The odds in the PB and even more the new MM are astronomical. You will most likely never win the jackpot or even the second tier prizes because of the odds.

The MM's went from 175 million to one to 258,890,850 to one. The PB's currents odds are what the MM's used to be 175 million to one. The CL is 13,983,816 to one. I pray to god they dont mess with the CL, its just fine as it is. The CL clearly has the best odds for winning the JP. The jump in odds is immense and I will always play the CL because I have a good chance to win, you dont have half a chance to win with the MM or PB. And I can tell you from experience after playing all three games at varying times in my life, that I've gotten closer to winning the CL jackpot more than I ever did playing MM and PB combined. I would say I've had at least ten tickets in all the years I've played that were very close to the CL JP. Nota one with the MM or PB. And like I was saying, I dont want that much money, just a couple of mill and I'm quitting work the next day.

With the Mm's and PB the house always wins.

You will hear a new story about them being caught cheating!!!! The classic lottery was rigged!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the winner is supposed to be ecstatic. Could you imagine PB/MM rolling for 2-1/2 years?. People will be getting second mortgages, spending their food money, their tuition fees and babies'  money just to get in on that game, and that's even the non-compulsive players. The compulsive gamblers most likely, will end up in jail or in the hospital. The jackpot will be out of this world.

I do that too. Not playing games until the jp starts rising. Problem is I get caught up in resets because I'm into the advanced play feature so as to avoid missing draws and also to avoid buying more than 1 line. No Nod

Good luck!

Even though the Colo Lottery is a mere 8.5 million, I would be fine with winning that.  Lots less publicity country-wide.

Wish I could have figured out a way to have someone buy and mail me tickets from the Ohio Lottery.

God help us if PB or MM ever had a 2 year run. People would be flying in from all over the world to play. The winner would be hounded forever and would be sued dozens of times a year for whatever nonsense people would dream up. Next of kin would be hiring hitmen. FBI would be working overtime trying to foil kidnapping plots.

I don't think the winner feels that way.

Ohio residents and those playing from bordering states would much prefer the old Ohio lotto versions...where it was won every month or two and people ACTUALLY WON REAL $$$ on a regular basis.

This Classic is a joke and the higher it gets the bigger a joke it is.

HOW SWEET.

Would have been even sweet IMO if a multitude of lucky ohio residents won this big!

To be shared within at least a dozen or less, premise on how long it has taken to win this.

The winner has me to thank.  I am starting to think the lottery gods are sending me a message.  I was traveling and bought megamillions tickets in Michigan and someone (not me) won the megamillions in Michigan.  On the same trip I bought Ohio lotto tickets for 10 consecutive draws and look what happens...someone (not me) wins after 2 1/2 years.  This is not the first time I have seen this trend.  Yep, feeling laughed at by Lady Luck!  Smile

I agree ArrowHead.  However, you should be careful expressing views like that at this website, talk about spreading the wealth, that is.  There are very patriotic posters here who might interpret such thinking as bordering on Socialistic Leaning, and given the zealotry their beliefs are based upon, who knows what might happen to your reputation here at LP?  Wink

I think thats what the Rolling Cash 5 is for.  It's usually won a couple times a week and while it may not be as much as the OCL, it's still a nice little payout.

People will play anything. I'd be irritated with a jackpot that kept rolling. That is a long time to wait but

who knows if the winner played all that time or just bought a ticket for that draw? For all the die hards,

get smart or die trying. I think the Ohio lottery or just that game itself needs an overhaul. Preferably one

that can be won in a month or two. Years is just ludicrous.

rcbbuckeye's avatarrcbbuckeye

It's not the game itself. Here in Texas our Lotto game has odds almost 1 in 26 million. It's been hit twice this year. The first was Jan 1st with a jackpot of 12 million. Most recently on May 31st with a jackpot of 36.25. It has never in my recollection gone as long as Ohio's.

It's more about how many tickets are sold. It would seem that there aren't that many people playing Classic Lotto. RJOh pointed out that Ohio has been running a MM promo lately that probably hurt Classic Lotto sales.

If our Lotto game had odds like Classic Lotto it would probably be won every couple of months and the jackpot wouldn't have a chance to grow very much.

Crazy Yeah, I know what you mean...All I can say is I like money as much as the next guy and like to see other folks get some too. Two and a half years with no JP winner is not a real Lotto game by anyone's definition.

The Rolling Cash 5 is fine for smaller, pay-off-debt/loan amounts. Depending on your age, it's not going to mean early retirement or any change in life-style.

I've spoken to this before, so I'm repeating a theme, but the former Ohio Lotto (under different names over the years) started with a $4 mil JP, increased usually $1 mil per draw and was won somewhere typically between the $6-30 mil marks. That's serious money by anyone's standards...or should be.

Then along came the national lottery games with their pipe-dream, $100-mil plus jackpots and all the publicity that goes with them. And you have state lotteries now being won maybe a few times a year. Or, in the case of Ohio, practically never.

I agree that MM and PB definitely hurt the OCL.  The jackpot usually only went up 100-300k each draw, which shows that there was some interest, but just not overwhelming amount.  I play the OCL pretty consistently.  I liked the big jackpot, but it would be nice if it were won a little more frequently.  It has been won 11 times since it started in January 2007.

We probably won't learn the answer to that question but we do know that the Ohio Lottery's Press Office reports that the winning ticket was a

Ohio lottery is fraudulent in my opinion. Check the winners on their website it's the same winners that has been on there for 3 years. The same black girl talking about a emerald 7s ticket she won $1,000 on. Her statements doesn't sound like words from a genuine winner it sounds like advertising!!! Also they have not had a winner for classic lottery in almost 3 years??? Then they have a press release about it a few weeks ago and then all of a sudden this past saturday they have a jackpot winner gtfooh!!! They control the payouts and if you don't believe me and you are a skeptic, go to any ohio retailer and try to play 1111 on the pick4 and watch what that clerk tell you. Then you can come back to this post and tell me I was right. They are cheating their is no big winfall to be won!! I don't know anybody who knows anybody who has won any big prizes with the exception of a rolling cash 5 winner of $63,000 and then he won rolling cash 5 again for another $63,000 then he came up dead 3 months later hmmm.......... People of Ohio do yourself a favor and play your lottery in the state of Pennsylvannia or Indianna because Ohio has been compromised In my opinion by crooks!!

PB/MM wouldn't have to roll for 2 1/2 years for people to be ecstatic. If either one rolled for just 6 months which is approximately 50 drawings, the jackpot would most likely exceed $10 billion. This would urge pretty much anybody with a pulse to participate.

Did you buy some Quick Picks?

No I didn't but what do you think about all the Quick Picks that didn't win after 2½ years?
