The lottery knows for sure that he is from California.  State lotteries may respect wishes of winners not to release info to the public, but they absolutely require full knowledge of who the winner is and where they're from in order to claim the prize.  That's how the Iowa Lottery prevented Eddie Tipton from claiming the $16 million jackpot he rigged, and eventually led to his arrest and conviction.

You don't know what they know.  The California Lottery hasn't issued a statement saying that Jack Freney is from California.    He could have had an attorney, an LLC, and who knows what else to shield his actual address.  Eddie Tipton was a lottery employee, of course he was going to be scrutinized harder.  These two situations have nothing to do with one another.

Iowa and California are different states with different laws and lottery policies.

LottoYear, I have a feeling Todd knows.  This is his site and he's run it for many years.  I suspect he knows a thing or two about lotteries.

Actually, you are the one who doesn't know.  And your statement about Eddie Tipton shows you really have no clue.  He did use a lawyer and LLC.  Any person casually reading Lottery Post news would know that.  Stop trolling or you won't last long.

Not sure if I have seen Eddie, at the biggest grossing CA lottery store @ Primm on the CA/Nevada State Line, or not Wink

But I am certain the eye in the sky camera has captured his picture for verification.

        Congrats are in order Hurray!

What a great win for the player and the retailer.

Red55, Are you able to keep your win a secret? No one else will have a clue about your win.

I plan on trusting and telling three others.

I need a pair of new glasses. I stepped on and broke my previous ones in half. LOLLOL

            .

Yes, I would plan to keep it a secret, AND by your own advice:  Get the Lawyer, and Financial Advisor ahead of time. Ask Lawyer about trust plans.

The Lawyer: to handle the trusts, LLC., to keep your name out of the media, and . . . ?
The Financial Adviser: to make smart investments. Buy the yacht, the big house, and garage fillers: Porsche, Lambo, and motorcycles: H-D, whatever.

And of course, no more debt.

            • But, ALWAYS the regular numbers you play.  This will make you a winner, not a chaser.
(so far, though, I've yet to win any significant lotto prize)

Winning this amount of money is enough revenge already. There is no longer any more desires, for gratuitous revenge butt kicking. I will also try to make amends for all the transgressions that I am responsible for, if any.

Well, I hope it was in a pool. But, does it seem like he may have jumped the gun,
and went to cash it in right away, possibly without the Lawyer and F.A., which is how the media got his info?

That is one of the most interesting statements from a winner. Did he mean injustices done to him or wrongs he did to others?

                .

Artist77, Interesting point. When I see a statement like that,
I always assume "injustices he did to others".

In Calif, it takes 60 days to receive the money so he has plenty of time to set up a will & trust and consult with a financial adviser.  The media got his info because California Lottery released it as required by state law.

I think many of us put money into it; they need to spread the wealth. They should break it up by states so that its fair for everyone. Kind of susicious that many states are involved but winners from one state, mainly?
