Ex-girlfriend of slain lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare wins $1 million jackpot

Florida Lottery

LAKELAND, Fla. — Call it the sequel of Abraham Shakespeare.

On Thursday, Antionette Andrews, the former girlfriend of slain lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare, won $1 million on a $20 scratch-off $5 million Monopoly game from a Florida Lottery ticket she bought at a Circle K at 7250 U.S. 98 N in Lakeland.

"I am a little scared," Andrews, 42, said Monday. "It still doesn't seem real."

She's scared about a lot of publicity and because of what happened after Shakespeare won a $17 million lump-sum payment from the Florida Lottery in November 2006.

Dorice "Dee Dee" Moore befriended Shakespeare a couple of years after he won the lottery. By that time, he had given away or lent the majority of his winnings.

Shakespeare was last seen in April 2009 and was reported missing by a family member in November that year. His body was found Jan. 28, 2010, under a concrete slab behind a Plant City home.

Moore, who had bought Shakespeare's Redhawk Bend Drive house, was charged with murder and found guilty in 2012. She is serving a life sentence for the slaying of Shakespeare, who was 43 when he died.

Andrews is the mother of Moses Shakespeare, 16 — Abraham Shakespeare's son. A $1 million trust was set up by Shakespeare for Moses to settle child-support claims. Andrews said Moses will receive the $1 million when he turns 18.

Now, there will be another millionaire in the family.

Or close to it.

Andrews chose to receive a one-time payment of $770,000.

She said she typically spends about $100 each day playing scratch-off games.

Thursday was a light day. She spent only $20 on one ticket.

"I brought it home and started scratching," Andrews said. "I got to the third number and started screaming, hollering and crying."

"Your mama just won a million dollars," she told her 14-year-old daughter.

Andrews called her older son, Raheeme Dumas, 24, about the ticket.

"Make sure it's not $1,000 or $100,000," he said he told her. He believed her only when she sent him a picture of the ticket.

Dumas said his mother has a gambling addiction. But the gambling is far better than her previous drug addiction.

"As long as we have the bills paid, that's what I love to do," Andrews said.

Each day she tells Dumas, "Some day, $20 is going to get me something." She even played the lottery on her return trip to Lakeland from Tallahassee after meeting with Florida Lottery officials about the winning ticket.

Andrews and Dumas said they will likely leave Lakeland in the coming months to start a new life somewhere else. She plans to buy Dumas a new truck and new houses for her and her older daughter.

"That's really all I want," she said.

i'm so very happy for u, and i wish we didn't have to give our name IF we ever win. she is only in her 40s so still YOUNG  enough to ENJOY it. spend it wisely.

I wish we didn't have to give our name, seriously.

I don't like that. I can see last name and state/county,sure. To let others know we won in such county or whatever.

But i am so happy for her. ABRAHAM RIP.Poor guy. I hope DEE DEE the murderer never get out of prison, even though she is still trying to.

EdG1955

So she spends about $35,000 a year on lottery and her after-tax prize will be about $425,000.  That'll fund about 12 years of lottery play if she doesn't buy anything else with the winnings.

Dee Dee Moore must ask either the Governor of Florida or the President of the United Sates for a pardon.

Maybe Abraham Lee Shakespeare is smiling down upon his Ex-Girlfriend. I wish her continued good luck!Lep

Abraham seemed like such a good guy and I think he is her guardian angel and made this happen.

Guardian angels are all around us and we saw this today in Alexandria,  VA.

"She said she typically spends about $100 a day playing scratch off games"...

She spends $100 a day playing scratch offs???  Where did she get all that money; that's $3,000 a month, typically.  Serious gambling problem (regardless of the result) there...

I do wonder if her wins could support this addiction. 3000$ a month? just on the lottery?

" Where did she get all that money?" Perhaps Mr Shakespeare had sliced off enough to keep her afloat all this time, we may never know." I don't think Dee Dee got to all of his money, perhaps that is one of the reasons he got killed, refusing to tell that evil woman where the rest of his stash was..** that's a total guess on my part.

I lived through 9-11.  There were still many miracles that day. But only other Christians would understand.

My response was not to offend. I am simply saying that "others" may wonder, why their GA's are not looking out for them, why are they not making them win the JP? Do they stand or fly idly by while seeing some living in poverty, living off the street? If GA'S are picking and choosing, that could be considered totally unfair.

Dupe AlertEd1955 if you had bothered to really read and understand what you were reading you would've read that after taxes she received around $700 plus thousand.

She won it,she's claiming it,and she'll continue to feed her gambling addiction. Sad situation. Just sad.

Thanks for the information on Florida not being a State where lottery winners can claim anonymously Hlamb. That information was not provided in the report and l do not go searching for such if it is not posted. What l was more concerned with was HOW the lottery came by the information of her being the ex of the late Mr Shakespeare.l am of the mind that she provided that information willingly. The question is why?

*No harm, no foul.

If you read the story and understood what you'd read you'd know that it doesn't even mention taxes, but says very clearly that she chose the cash option of 770k.

If you had even a basic clue about taxes and lottery prizes you'd know that after mandatory tax withholding somebody who actually wins a million bucks gets a check for $750,000.

Because life is random. You are asking me questions a five year old would ask.

If I had a $100.00 a day to play lotto, I wouldn't need to worry about winning and I certainly wouldn't be spending It on Lotto, I didn't when I could afford to, I was a single Mom with Kids/Teenagers to raise, I PD bill's bought ton's of groceries, we went out to Dinner, took Vacation's and had car payments, Ins, an  House payment like some regular working people also had daughter with taste for high dollar clothes(didn't mind we wore the same sz, she got nice clothes ment I did too!) LOL

She either received the remainder of her son's Fathers winnings or she's collecting SSI for the Son they had together which will end when he turns 18 or 21 If he goes on to College because she It the remaining care taking Parent!

With all due respect Artist, your saying l am asking questions that a 5 year old would ask is ridiculous. You were the one who said that Mr Shakespeare was Antoinette 's guardian Angel & he made this happen. How do you know that ? I did not read you mentioning "random" when it came to her win, you were so certain it was her GA.

Peace.

I agree, Scalise owes his life to Crystal Griner, a gay woman of color was his guardian angel.

Speaking of guardian angels, it's nice that Scalise medical bills are covered 100%, many people would be bankrupted by 3 emergency surgeries following gun shot wounds.

That's a description of a good Samaritan, a real breathing person. There is even a society known as the GSS. Google " Guardian Angels" and wiki takes you to pictures of winged celestial beings. That was my whole point.

I hope his gf manages her money well and gives thanks every single day.

Which brings up another thought,if they are unique to believers, why then do they exist in Hinduism, Islam & Zoroastrianism?
