British Columbia LotteryBritish Columbia Lottery: Canadian man wins lottery, celebrates birthday and retires on same dayRating:

A man in Canada has had a truly amazing 24 hours, winning CA$2 million (US$1.5 million) on the lottery on the same day as his birthday and retirement.

Vancouver resident Ping Kuen Shum was already in high spirits after celebrating his birthday and retirement on April 28, when he decided to buy a ticket for the BC/49 draw the same night.

Amazingly, all six of Shum's numbers — 09, 12, 13, 18, 21, and 29 — came through, winning the birthday boy the entire CA$2 million jackpot.

Shum said he celebrated with a dim sum meal alongside family and friends. He is also planning on spending his winnings on a trip to China.

"It's unbelievable that all three events happened on the same day," said Shum. "I have worked hard for so many years and I'm looking forward to sharing this fortune with my family."

Shum purchased the winning ticket at the Parker Place Convenience Centre in Richmond, British Columbia.

According to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) the odds of winning the BC/49 jackpot are one in 13,983,816.

The BCLC said they were unable to disclose how old Shum is or where he retired from.

The BC/49 is a British Columbia-only lottery, which takes every Wednesday and Saturday in the Canadian province.

In March, a teenager in Canada celebrated winning the lottery on the milestone of her 18th birthday.

Charlie Lagarde, from Quebec, purchased the ticket along with a bottle of champagne to celebrate her birthday, and and won CA$1,000 (US$773.80) per week for the rest of her life.

"It's without taxes so it's equivalent to a salary of more than CA$100,000 a year, so it's a great start in life for that young lady," Patrice Lavoie, a spokeswoman for Loto-Quebec, said.

"That was her first lottery ticket ever and she fell upon a winning ticket."

An amazing 3 for 3 eh?

Wonder who he's picking in the Derby?

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

On a side note here, Mega Millions won in Ohio.  Was it a record amount of secondary prizes of twelve and six of those Megaplier winners X4???

Bleudog101, Did you have the winning Ohio ticket? or Do you?  Did you notice all those birthday numbers? All those numbers were from a monthly calendar. It was bound to be won.

Having picked those birthday numbers, the record number of secondary prizes is not surprising.

Are you ready to win PB tonight? What will you do with about $80,000,000.00 cash?

I am here in California. I do have the claim form which I will complete. I will fill out the back of the ticket. I am not in New Hampshire so my ticket is already signed. I do not have the Jackpot Election Payment form for choosing the Lump Sum and not the Annuity. Since I will have won over $350,000.00 I will be interviewed by a Security agent. SLED - Security and Law Enforcement Division.

I will have a Living Revocable Trust and an LLC ready to use when required by me.

I will politely decline their invitation to be interviewed by the press and be photographed.

                 Then have fun!

Wow Music*, you certainly know a whole lot more about CA lottery's ins and outs than l do. Getting interviewed by a security agent? l have heard that they pepper you the winner* with various questions and see whether the answers jive with what they think would be responses from winners. After last night's MM win, we definitely need a California PB win.Whatever the outcome- l won't be buying any helicopter.
