Jamaican lottery winner wears 'Scream' mask to hide identity

A lottery winner in Jamaica who seemingly wanted to remain anonymous chose quite the mask to conceal his face.

Dressed in a mask of "Ghostface" — a character in the "Scream" movies with a signature white face and long, wide-opened mouth — the winner, only identified as A. Campbell, collected his winnings of roughly $158,400,000 in Jamaican dollars, which equates to over $1,171,400 in U.S. currency.

Campbell, according to the Jamaica Star, became sick when he found out he won the Super Lotto in November, after buying a $200 ticket.

"I found out [I won] the same night," he said. "Normally, I would write down the numbers from the [televised] draw, eat and then go and check my numbers. I looked at my ticket [that night] and ran into my bathroom and said: 'I won! I won!'"

He reportedly picked up his check on Feb. 5. He said while he's alright, he "just a bit numb, a little bit" after his big win.

Campbell appeared to have contemplated how to responsibly handle the money.

"I want to get a nice house. I haven't found it yet, but I'll be looking for one soon. I like to handle money. I don't beg, I don't borrow," he said. "So I'm looking at things that can turn over the money. I have a little business, so I plan to make it bigger, buy an apartment. I love to have money."

Campbell isn't the first Super Lotto winner to protect their identity following their win. In June, a woman who won $180,900,000 in Jamaican money wore a winking emoji facemask to conceal who she was.

Learn something new everyday and this article was it.  Had no earthly idea Jamaica even had a lottery.

Don't blame the winners for concealing their identities in that country one bit.

He should have concealed his name also as he can still be found by all the scammers.

In China it's a given to disguise yourself when claiming a jackpot. They blur your face for any photographs published or you can wear  an outfit from a Disney character or a mask, etc. I don't see any reason why the criminals should know who you are. Congratulations! yeah men!

If I win, I'll be wearing either a Beavis/Butthead mask, or I'm going to come as The Dude from The Big Lebowski...  Big Smile

He was right, the crime rate in Jamaica is very high. Lottery winners shouldn't be required to do a press conference. In the UK, winners automatically have the right to remain anonymous, which the vast majority do. UK Lottery winners, who do opt for publicity, end up regretting their decision.

There are lotteries in different African countries as well...the lottery is not exclusive to the Western world of Canada, America, Australia and Europe.

By golly, I was planning to pull a similar stunt had I been so fortunate to win that $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot.

But if I should win in the near future, one thing I will repeat time and time again during the press conference is that my first name is No, middle name is Not and I am changing my last name to Today. So if you come asking for anything, especially those preacher types, I will respond with my name...No Not Today.
