Iraq soldier wins part of $12 million Lotto jackpot
It's been a lucky few weeks for a Texas soldier serving in Iraq. He won part of a $12 million dollar Lotto Texas jackpot, and now he's home. Lottery officials say the big winner in the May 23rd drawing was the Las Colinas Lottery Group. More than two dozen people pooled their money, at 20 bucks a month, to play. Among them was Master Sergeant Bethurel Griffin of Arlington. He deployed to Iraq in June of 2006, but Griffin had paid in advance to stay in the lotto pool. Griffin

Stay here, or flee the country ?
Since we seem to be on a 'morality kick' as of late, let me ask this: (there is no room for discussion on the dollar amounts) Two months ago, you were found liable for a car wreck/someone drowned in your pool/your pit bull killed someone. The Court levied a 7 million dollar judgement against you (forget the Insurance argument - you had none). Last week you won 15 million in the Lottery, 7 million cash. You CAN flee the USA with all your money and go somewhere like Cuba, Argentina

Does money buy you happiness?
Rich problems - I've never been there either but I really doubt I'd have any problems deciding where to go on vacation, what car(s) to drive, my home, or anything like that. If I buy something I don't like, I'd have enough money to just go trade it in for something else. No problem at all. Maybe rich problems would be being robbed carjacked kidnapped peeps wanting to date/marry you just to get their hands on your money peeps you trust with your investments stealing from y

After months of pounding numbers calcu.....
When the Lottery started in Texas we first had the 6 number game.....6 out of 50 digits. I tracked the numbers in that and soon saw some things that happened. I divided the digits into Singles, Teens, Twenties, Thirties Forties...with 1 through 10-, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40 and 41-50. What I soon found out was that MOST of the time only 4 of the 5 denominations appeared in a game. If you can eliminate 1 denomation you take out 10 digits. Another thing I found was that most of the time th

Have you noticed?
Hi again. Thanks for them reply's. It's good to hear all kinds of ideas, and also really good to hear opposing views and methods that can stem into something newely discovered. Best of luck playing those big lottos. Another simple idea I thought is this: In a 56 Number Pool (MM), every one of these numbers containing a single digit can be written as follows. The numbers out of 56, containing the digit 1 For examble are: 1,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,21,31,41,51(Thats a total of 14!)

Realities of winning the lottery
Thanks for your comments. I did make a mistake in saying that each person gets back only $.50. That should be $2.52. What I failed to clarify in my message is that I am basing my simulations on California results where all payouts are paramutual. The real life payout for the 5+0 ticket in California was $160,600 to three winning tickets. To make my simulation as real as possible, I used the following math: (160,600 * 3) / 4 This comes out to 120,450 which I used as the winning total

Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
Are you suggesting that people are smart enough to know their chances of winning are extremely slim with odds of 1 in 150 million, but will think they've got a realistic chance with odds of 1 in 75 million? Even with smaller games the odds are high enough that the only rational thought is that you won't win. With 1 in 20 million odds spending $1000 a year means you should expect to win once every 20,000 years. For the most part, the lottery pays out 50 cents for every dollar they collect, an

First Penn. Lottery Raffle $1 million prize claimed
A Bucks County, Pennsylvania, man has become the first to claim a $1 million top prize from the Pennsylvania Lottery's Dec. 30, 2006, Millionaire Raffle drawing. John Maier of Churchville presented his winning raffle ticket at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. After examining the ticket and executing other propriety security measures, Lottery officials today confirmed that it was one of the five top-prize winning tickets from the Dec. 30 Millionaire Raffle drawing. The fi

Curious. What would the payouts be?
petergrfn: I beleive the payouts are more like this !!!! 63.6% of the prize pool. Example 400 million would render the claiment a cool $254,400,000 before taxes if the cash option was selected. However, I think most Lottery Commissions are required by law to take out at least 25% before the claiment is cut a check. Any remaining IRS payments are the responsibility of the claiment depending on his or her tax bracket. SOOOOOOO that would leave a check cut in the amount of $190,800,000
