I was thinking the same thing this morning as I was checking numbers. @ Bigger faster jackpots. They should have just kept the same price point. And added a Thursday draw. To me the jackpot seems to be moving at a snails pace.

The bigger jackpots aren't happening as advertised with the $5. They've been won 112M and 348M since the change. In 2024 they were won at 1.1B 552M 800M 1.3B Not only are they being won as far smaller jackpots than before they also seem slower.

I don't want the PB or MM jackpots so I stick to my beloved Cash 5 and state lotto dividing an equal amount into both. I think you should go a little deeper than 3 PB plays a week. That matrix though is discouraging to do more than double your play there. Most cash 5 games are daily now so on the days there is no PB you want to have something going.

They should have done some polling to see how a price increase would go over with the players. Plus making bold claims before the price increase came about didn't help either. The old format produced jackpots of over 1 billion dollars twice a year plus many secondary prizes of 1 or 2 million. Hopefully things will change .

I've given the new format a chance but I'm not seeing very many if any big prizes like 1,3,or 5 million. And I expected there would be larger jackpots sooner. Maybe ticket sales aren't what they thought they would be.

Both jackpots are tied at $189 million. But given the Mega Millions jackpot was $50 million ahead of Powerball near the beginning of this race, Powerball is proving to be the winner. Where Mega Millions will probably shine is longevity. The Powerball jackpot will probably be won well before Mega Millions.

It's all being done for reason. Jackpots in both games will stay close to each other. So people play 5 days a week. Just my opinion though.

I'm not overlooking it. While yes it could be and probably will be sometimes, they are selling less tickets with pretty much the same odds so that's the whole point, it is even more likely now that it will be won at a much higher jackpot because they are selling less tickets. More often than not they're going to get their bigger jackpots. People prove over and over they have short memories. What mega millions has done is the most logical for their objectives whether we personally like it or not.
