One Michigan lottery ticket wins $842.4 million Powerball jackpot
What's the alternative. No lottery. Everyone knows the lump sum is all that is in a jackpot. The lure is what the annuity would be is the jackpot you see. Taxes are taxes. No escaping the taxes. You just accept what you get and be happy about it. They are not about to all of a sudden announce, no more taxes on excessive lottery winnings.

British Columbia Lottery taking bets on US election
If you think Trump's taxes is going to determine if he wins or loses votes than you are from another PLANET... cause we have bigger issues than worrying about Trump releasing his taxes... your just jealous about Trump cause Trump knows the laws in how he can do his taxes just like other people know and use them to their best interest... and Trump is not stupid enough to lose all that he has worked for over not paying his taxes... Trump is smarter than Hillary when it comes to Business Deals...

Powerball at $112 million. Do you like Cynthia Stafford's chances...?
Yes, pay off your house and set aside money to pay property taxes, estimate higher property taxes, ( for me, 41 years of property taxes ). Also, set aside household living cost for the house. (gas and electric, water, trash and upkeep cost ). that would be the first thing to do. She is going to lose the house because of upkeep and the property taxes, which is due every year.

Mark Cuban's Advice to Winner
Well said. Governments, local and national, make up the rules as they go and those rules are always in favor of you giving the government free money. Paying taxes on the same money twice should be illegal. One of my least favorite taxes is property taxes on cars. I pay sales tax when I buy the car, now I have to pay taxes annually for owning it?? Seems like double taxation to me!

You win the powerball or mega millions, Taxes owned??
Say you win tomorrow's night MM jackpot and claim it on Monday morning. You will pay withholding taxes on that jackpot on Monday morning as you claim the jp. In April 2015 when you file for 2014 taxes you will most likely end up paying taxes because the jp pushed you to the top income bracket. But if you don't earn any income at all in the year 2015 then in 2016 you will not owe any taxes.

Avoiding State tax on Megamillions winnings.
Residences of other states with state taxes that work in a state with no state taxes still must pay state taxes on their income in the state of residence. It's possible someone could get away with paying no state taxes on a prize under $5000, but a multi-million jackpot is a whole different ball game.

Cant you just give cash to avoid the gift taxes on the receipients??
So if you hit the jackpot and want to give friends and family some money...can't you just give them cash so they wont have to pay the gift taxes? Like if I had of won one of the past two jackpots, I would have just got maybe a million in cash and handed out different amounts to friends and distant family....Would they be exempt from the taxes then???
