U.S. lawmaker hits the lottery
after dividing 75K 3 ways i don't get 24,835 before taxes or after taxes..why this odd amount..after taxes it should be about 51K divided 3 ways for about 17K apiece... or do these state rep hacks get out of paying taxes (probably)? as far as reichert 200.00 casino win goes how does anyone know that. it is certainly under the tax threshhold and certainly not reportable...

Can I get some help with online lottery tax info
You should never have to pay taxes on pick 3..Only way you need to pay taxes is if a 1.00 ticket is more then 600.00..If you say have 100 1.00 pick 3 and it pays 599.00 for each ticket you can cash them all at once and not have to pay taxes..Like I just said if a 1.00 ticket is more then 599.00 then you have to file taxes..Call the lottery outlet and ask them and they will tell you the same thing..

About Taxes
I was thinking yesterday about the powerball being up to $222 million and was thinking of maybe getting my son to go cross the river from his girl friends into Ky and playing some numbers for me.I think I am right on this but wanted to be sure about this.Lets say if I would get lucky enough and win it I know I would have to pay the fed tax and Ky taxes but since I live in Ohio I would also pay Ohio taxes on the winnings? I am sure i do but wanted to be sure on that.Sorry if this has been asked b

winning a few thousand, what do you do?
I would put a little aside to pay the extra taxes that the $5000 extra income will cost. In Ohio, taxes are not deducted from lottery prizes up to $5K, so when I file the W-G the state will send me with my taxes, I would expect my federal and state taxes to increase an additional $1600, they increased $300 when I won $1500 a few years ago.

Taxes on Canadian lottery winnings
The IRS thought about this a long time before you did. Giving up your citizenship wouldn't help unless you do it before you win. If you renounce your US citizenship in order to avoid taxes you'll still owe them for the next ten years. If you renounce your citizenship after winning a significant sum in the lottery you'll have two problems. First, it's a safe bet what the courts will rule when asked to decide if avoiding taxes played a role in your decision. Second, regardless of the court's rul

PLEASE HELP - regarding tax and lottories
lola23,I'm interested to learn why the tax issue is so important to you.To answer your question, UK Lotto, Euro Millions, and El Gordo (as offered by the services on the left side of the page) do not have taxes withheld. That's because they are bought in the UK and Spain, which do not subtract taxes from lottery prizes. That is not to say that your particular country will not withhold taxes if you bring the money into your country. The US lotteries would have US government taxes withheld - normal

The top 10% of wage earners pay 65% of the total taxes collected every year. I would say they are pa

Tennessee Senator criticizes Lottery vacation, sick leave policy
I understand your reaction if you're the government worker getting laid off. However, philosophically, I believe smaller government is better, and I strongly believe in capitalism and competition as the means to achieve the best possible results.Taxes pay for government jobs. The more government jobs, the higher the taxes. On the other hand, companies make their money independent of taxes, and actually generate income for the government because they themselves are taxed. Therefore, letting corpo

Treasurer eyes tax-evading Lottery winners
>That raises suspicions that a small number of people who don't pay taxes are paying cash to buy winning tickets from legitimate players who want to avoid taxes. Can someone explain why the people who don't pay taxes don't pay taxes? It looks like the state has their name and information.
