Salon lottery winners settle dispute
You'd think it should be an enjoyable time, winning the lottery, said Lucy Lewis-Johnston, but it hasn't been the case at all. Lewis-Johnston is one of eight Indianapolis hair stylists who fought over one winning ticket. They were all part of a lottery pool last February at Lou's Creative Styles, the salon Lewis-Johnston owns. (See Hair stylists spar over $9.5M Hoosier Lotto jackpot, Lottery Post, Feb. 22, 2013.) The woman who bought the ticket said the winner was one she bought for h

Powerball multi-state lottery to raise prices, jackpots
I dispute it because I went to a better school and/or was more able to understand what was taught. You'd be right if we were talking about the chances of a jackpot being claimed by an individual vs the chances of being claimed by a group. I'm counting the couples and families (and the 2 unknowns) as individuals, even though multiple family members may have bought tickets, so the 2010 results show that 9 of the 12 jackpots were claimed by individuals. Having gotten more out of my education

Powerball multi-state lottery to raise prices, jackpots
You do know that the discussion is about jackpots being won by individuals versus jackpots won by groups , right? The jackpot was only won 12 times, but there were more than 12 winners. Besides the Flatbush Avenue Dodgers there were at least two other jackpots that were won by groups. One of them is clear for anyone able to understand the table you posted. The other received just a tiny bit of notice recently, both here and in other news sources. That there may be a dispute that delays paymen

Detroit lottery millionaire charged with murder
You can not move anywhere, to avoid studpidity. Its in every state and country. Its found in every class of people, every ethnic group, and whether you have money or not. Its not exclusive to liberals or conservatives. Its not exclusive to hillbillies or ghetto monsters. Look at Arnold Maria. He worth $300million and she worth $100million. Humanity has good and bad, and this story is only about the bad choice the father made bringing a gun to a dispute about rent. Its about good and bad peop

Piqua lottery winners sued by co-workers
Let's consider that you were actually hit by a sober nun who honestly believes she wasn't on thee sidewalk, then. Plenty of lawsuits (and criminal cases) are essentially he said she said cases. In the Piqua case, the plaintiffs are claiming an agreement that all would share. Such an agreement strikes me as foolish if people chose whether or not to participate on a draw by draw basis, but we have no way of knowing what the agreements really were. Perhaps there was such an agreement, based on t

Ontario lottery winners: remember when you bought the ticket ... or else
They could refuse payment, because a bearer bond doesn't mean what most people think it means, but they aren't refusing payment. The delay is a result of their new rules because of insiders winning too many prizes. There's an article with more info here: http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/story.html?id=05c5068b-bb69-4f8f-8298-4915eb0ea20f @ scarychick: Some lotteries print the time on the ticket and some don't. I can't figure why any of them do, other than complete stupidity. The lotte

Worker accused of stealing winning Oregon lottery ticket
I don't remember the particualr post you do, but I doubt that I would have said that money isn't always a bearer instrument. The point that I have made several times is that people misunderstand what bearer instrument means. Some financial instruments are registered to their owner, and some aren't, and whether or not it's registered doesn't change the laws about ownership of property. Cash is a bearer instrument, but if you lose it you still own it. It's just a matter of whether or not you're

Most lottery players never see big payoff
Thank you Todd for posting this article. I doubt if it will change any attitudes here, but maybe somebody will wake up and smell the coffee and realize the lottery is a shot at a big win, but far from a guarantee. I read so many posts here that say I know I'll win the PB and the chances are so slim. I often think I'm going to win too, even after 30 years. I still hope I do someday, but I realize it might never happen. I'm glad I continued reading the entire article, because at first it s

New York Lottery won't pay $25,000 for taped-up scratch-off ticket
Manzitto's lawyer, Arnold, doesn't dispute that the colored lines don't match, but argued that that is how the ticket was sold. Patricia Manzitto and her lawyer know the ticket is not a winning ticket but they are trying to make an argument similar to that of a Florida woman two years ago when she bought a scratch-off on which a number hadn't been completely printed and matched another one on her ticket for $250K. https://www.lotterypost.com/news/117317 Even though the words under the numb
