Lottery pool goes to court after man with losing ticket demands share of $63.3 million prize
They had (or tried to have) a precise member list where everyone contributed a precise amount for a one-time group play. If all the players on the retailer's list have paperwork confirming they were in syndicate #2 and the other guy doesn't things should be pretty clear. If the players don't have their own paperwork and the only paperwork is two lists that the retailer has they've done poor job regardless of how good their lists are. For the former I'd think the retailers would have brought

Group of seven friends win record $1.01 million Virginia Cash 5 jackpot
I ran a lottery pool at a previous workplace and there was no chance of that happening. When I bought the tickets, I gave copies of them to every member of the pool so they would know exactly what tickets belonged to the pool. With copies of the tickets in hand, the members could check the drawings themselves to see if we won. One other thing I did was when I bought my personal tickets, I bought them at different times and at different stores from where I bought the pool tickets, again red

$654 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot skyrockets
Are you sure? I think MUSL would dispute your claim. The media will no doubt report on one state or another that X number of tickets were sold/minute. I think that if Powerball wasn't way up there I'd agree with you on slower Megamillions ticket sales. Seriously doubt they'll up the jackpot. Why would/should they?

Florida man sues friend in dispute over $1M lottery ticket
A Lakeland, Florida, man is suing a friend who he says cheated him out of money from a $1 million lottery ticket. Court records show John Rhoades filed a lawsuit against Tyler Scott, and Scott's girlfriend Brittany Causey. Wells Fargo Bank is also listed as a defendant. Rhoades said he used his own money to purchase a winning Florida Lottery scratch-off ticket from a Wawa gas station located on Highway 98 in Lakeland. He says he showed Scott the winning ticket, and his friend told him i

California Lottery officials seized surveillance footage from store that sold Powerball ticket
While the drawing is random, every ticket sold is logged in a database with a lot of information, including where it was sold and the date and time. With hundreds of millions at stake it is possible that a dispute over ownership of the ticket could ensue and video of who actually purchased the ticket could be important. If someone who differed from the purchaser showed up there would likely be questions as to how that person came to possess the ticket before they would pay out the winnings.

Washington woman wins $90 million Powerball jackpot on first try
Boeing employee......I would say there is a 40% chance it is her first time. If she played then her co-workers would likely know about it (watercooler talk) and dispute the story in the press. I know several people her age who have never played, simply because they have no reason or need to. It is also possible that this is her first Powerball ticket, not first ticket ever. I could say it my first ticket if I have never played the game before. There are over 300 million people in America, so

Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $180 million
Yeah. You said 7th MM win this year and I and Drenick1 proved you wrong. If you call that something to dispute you should consider going into politics or reporting for MSANBC, known to be 5% accurate. Then you start bobbing and weaving and talking about scratchers and nothing is really random. Two MM jackpot winners in California so far this year. [/STORY]

Jury rules that estranged brothers must split $1M lottery prize
lord only knows what the attorney's fees were. Unless the brother filing the lawsuit is a real moron the fees should be pretty reasonable. It's probably a few hours going over the story, maybe a bit of time while waiting for the trial, and trying to negotiate a settlement, and a few hours for a short trial. Call it 20 hours at a very generous $350 and it would have cost the winning brother 7 grand to get his 350 grand after taxes. Would have been nice if he got it for free, but he's way ahe

Florida lottery kicks off campaign to protect customers from dishonest clerks
Sounds like a good idea, especially for any substantial win. I always check the numbers online after the draw and if I win anything, I'll hand my ticket to the clerk saying I checked online and it says I won $x . Never had anyone dispute that but then it's never been for a large amount of money either. If it was, I'd definitely scan the ticket first. Perhaps going in with a friend or family, as a witness, would be good too. You can't be too trusting these days. Not when money is involved.
