Million-dollar ticket fight goes before Mass. Lottery board
Drivedabizness wrote:<< All the legal mumbo-jumbo is intersting - but hardly on point. Similar legal cases exist exactly because the courts can decide these issues, though there's no guarantee that they'll decide them prope

What if someone interferes ??
rundown99,I've never heard of MUSL giving anyone an advance on the payment for their PowerBall jackpot winnings unless that's what the first payment of an annuity settlement could be considered. Of course, like the vast majority of other people on this site, I've never won a jackpot either...lol. I would imagine that they withold all funds until they've completed all the steps in their certification procedures.Any relative who might try to interfere and claim your jackpot would have to have some

Anti-lottery group considers legal challenge to N.C. Lottery
There might yet be a legal fight over the new North Carolina lottery.A spokesman for Citizens United Against the Lottery, a coalition formed to fight its creation, said Monday that the group is weighing a lawsuit challenging how the lottery was approved. It's in distinct consideration, said Bob Rosser, a spokesman for the group, whose board includes former legislator Chuck Neely, former UNC system presidents Bill Friday and C.D. Spangler Jr., and Capitol Broadcasting Co. chief Jim Goodmon. We

How to stay anonymous in states with no anonyminity
Will glady share what i researched long ago. While 99% of legal name changes are public records and done at local/state level. So anyone can find your new name. Their is state supreme court legal name changes that are sealed. It's basially do it your self witness protection. From what i can tell pretty much ever state only gives such powers to their state supreme court judges of their state [for obvious reasons to prevent legal abuse, etc.] It's done by an handful of state law

UPDATE: Florida winner whose ticket was lost in mail gets her prize
I find it hard to believe that Florida Lottery is telling the truth. They knew the winner had enough compelling evidence and was undoubtedly entitled to the second chance winnings but had no legal way to pay her so they made up, Oh, we have the ticket after all , to bring about a just, but non-legal result. $1,000 is a small price to pay to avoid the negative backlash as well as screw a rightful winner. I believe- as another has indicated- that a postal employee stole the envelope, realized they

An antiquated bent over blind lady, who you only know as "Vera" ...
No, it would not be irrelevant. If someone gave you $ to purchase a ticket, you have a legal and ethical obligation to tell the lottery officials. it is no different than all the other related but similar fact patterns and litigation where people argue over whether money loaned for a ticket meant something else, i.e. a promise to share. The only difference is the women disappeared and there is a legal obligation to disclose and for the lottery offiicals to look for her. The state has a legal obl

taxes on lottery winnings :(
Interesting statement Mario 38. In the USA it is a clerks legal obligation to check an ID, even if they are close to the legal age.....the young man had no legal obligation or right to check immigration status, just an opinionof the individual(s) ,possibly based on facts or knowledge of the person(s) he dealt with. While his statement was assumed (not proved) to be right winged or left winged, it could be independant of either side. Have no worries though, his country has freedom of choice and s

Ruling by Justice Dept. opens a door on online gambling
2012 may the year of widespread Internet lottery ticket sales The Justice Department has reversed its long-held opposition to many forms of Internet gambling, removing a big legal obstacle for states that want to sanction online gambling to help fix their budget deficits. The legal opinion, issued by the department's office of legal counsel in September but made public on Friday, came in response to requests by New York and Illinois to clarify whether the Wire Act of 1961, which prohibits

Should illegal immigrants be able to claim lottery prizes?
...get a legal person to cash the ticket, and hope they give you the money. I've read about crooks who are legal citizens with illegal businesses offering instant cash for winning lottery tickets to use in schemes to laundry their profits. They buy tickets from anyone, even legal citizens looking to avoid taxes or child support.

-Lottery Signature-
If a person wins the lottery and seeks to create a legal entity , do you think that, that person could sign the name of the legal entity on the back of the lottery ticket instead of a natural person , because in the end when all the paperwork is done, technically the legal entity has won the lottery as opposed to a natural person? Just curious of your opinions, if that was an option, I wouldn't know what i'll do, if that's even a problem for anybody at all.
