That is probably true, but they do have casinos.  If playing the lottery is important, one could always live in a town on or very near the borders of either Louisiana or Tennessee, both lottery states.  There's a town in northern Mississippi called Horn Lake which has become a suburb of Memphis.  If you wanted low taxes, a lottery, and a large city close by, this could be the place.

I didn't know that. I just thought of Horn Lake because I once met someone who lived there and said it was a nice place. But that was a few years ago, so things probably have changed. There are areas of Louisiana like that too which have had big increases in population and are now having big city problems. My opinion on this phenomenon is people often bring with them the very thing they are running away from.

I'd probably stay in my home state of Louisiana, but I'd probably live in a smaller community. I like where I live, but the traffic and congestion are just too much. If I were going to move somewhere after winning the lottery, I'd probably order the city's daily newspaper or read it online, plus go there a few times and spend a week or two in one of those hotels that has full suites with kitchens and such, so I can live like a local and see what it's like.

I like the place the live, but if I won and didn't have to work, I'd probably live somewhere else.

First thing I would do is pay off my debts!!! Credit cards, school loans and car.

I already have a car. I would want to be debt free, then buy a home of my own, and after that I'm off to Jamaica for two weeks. After telling my boss to find a new Admin. Asst. to drive nuts, because I'm through!!!!    Would I be wrong to send my letter of resignation via fax, while chilling on the beach drinking a rum punch?

That would be funny but seriously, I wouldn't quit my job right away.  I'd claim my money anonymously through a trust, get everything set up in order, wait until the excitement of a local person winning died down, then resign from my job.

I don't want to draw attention to myself because when you have money, everyone tries to take it from you whether it be long lost deserving relatives, business scams, sob stories, etc.  I also don't want to end up like Jack Whittaker.

I need to revise this. I play Fantasy 5, Lotto South and Mega Millions.

If I won a Fantasy 5 jackpot depending on the amount, pay down on debt, then go clothing shopping.

Lottos South win, pay down debt, then get this tread climber I've been wanting, and an IPod. I would also quit my job.

Mega Millions win, Pay down debt and MOVE!!!!

Jack Whittaker is the winner of the largest Powerball Jackpot in history, $325 million dollars.  Since winning, he's had alot of problems including brushes with the law, the death of his granddaughter, and who knows what else.  You can read about him here:

                              http://www.gamblinggates.com/news/lottery/jack_whittaker_misfortune30031.html

I understand about your boss, I've had bosses like that too.  My concern at that point would be not drawing attention to myself.  I'd be going into work dealing with it while quietly smiling in my head knowing in a few months once the excitement of a locally purchased ticket winning is overwith, I'd go in and amicably resign, basically saying I need a change of scenery and I've decided to move(which would be the truth), put in my 2 weeks, then go start my new life.

                              What a dream.
