annuities are mainly for people who can't handle a big sum of money at once or who have spending issues...

    Then why did 270 people in Massachusetts request to change from annunity payments to a lump sum (even though they had to pay a hefty fee to do it) when that state said they could do that if they wanted to?  Seems to me that they figured out that the annual payments were not a very smart thing to do!!  Who would know better than someone that already did it?

      you have a very good point....i have thought about it and if you take it all at once you don't have to deal with the hassle of wondering in the future if the payments are still going to be there.....

        if you did win a jackpot you would have a lot of hard financial decisions to make also.lots of long lost "friends" would suddenly show up out of the woodwork...

                      if 2d prize is $1 million annuity, than the cash option should not be fixed at 500k.
