I notice I can hit numbers.  Alot.  And I notice ALOT of other people can hit too.  Alot.  Mostly in pick 3 and pick 4, and alot of times these are big hits.

So, I was wondering, if anyone, felt they could hit consistent enough, with big enough hits, say, about $1k-$2k (or even much more), every week, or every other week, would you make a living off of the lottery?  Or, no matter how many times you hit, and no matter how long your "hitting" lasts, would you always view it as a "recreational" income?

I voted yes, I want to think yes.

Knowing you could hit anything beyond a Pick 3 consistently, I mean really knowing you could, would the lotteries continue to offer such a game? And could you keep it to yourself if you came upon something thst brought in let's say $5,000 a week?

Just a thought.    The casinos don't offer Faro anymore.

I chose "maybe." I've never hit that often or know anyone who nets a grand a week. The lottery is a game of chance, so even people who hit consistently might have several bad weeks. All it takes is one big win, and I wouldn't play if I didn't think that might really happen...just enough to take it easy. So far it hasn't happened, probably never will, but I won't give up just yet.  I think if you want to live off of gambling, you've got better odds playing poker or the ponies.

        Hmmm

        :)

I chose yes because I know this old guy, who makes $250 a week, playing his dream numbers...  :)  $$$

I hear stories like that too - and always have to wonder how much  they put into it?

          Winning $250 doesn't necessarily mean netting $250.

            You have a point.  :)

But, my vote was yes, as if I knew I could win consistently, I would just make it an "extra income".  :)

The solution is simple. Go to various places to redeem your $5000.00 a week. That would be the best job in the world. It's only ten tickets a week, each worth $500.00..........

I'd just buy a car and drive all over California, cashing in my chips for about a month, then stop for a week (yeah right)....and then resume with the plan for retirement.  LOL

On the other hand, if you can achieve such a high standard of brain activity, which  allows you to pick that accurately, then maybe much better endeavors need attention. LIke finding the cure to cancer. A noble cause.

Everyone has this gift of noble cause. Some just haven't discovered it yet. I know for a fact that everyone reading this can agree a hundred percent that if they were given a choice of 5 million dollars  cold hard tax-free cash, or saving a person from passing on, they will always choose the latter. I couldn't live with myself, if I chose the money. So actually ,,,,,you really don't have a choice, unless you don't have a conscience.

              Another word for synonym.

              I'm sorry....I don't eat nuts and twigs for breakfast......SORRY!

I voted no because I thought of the weeks were one may not do very well. On the other hand the weeks that one hits well could make up for those weeks. I used to hit a lot when KY had 1 draw a day and I played 10 numbers .50 str. I played these numbers 040, 004, 998, 989, 979, 997, 992, 929, 665, and 656. It was a total of $5.00 a day which came up to $155. a month. Normally I'd hit atleast 2 times a month. After a couple of months of hits I'd take one of those numbers, usually the late number and play 2.00 on it and the hottest number I'd put $3.00 to $5.00 on it. Over all if I didn't catch a number with the extra money on it I averaged 200 a month income off of it which was good enough for me as play time money. I think I'm going to do some research on one of these states that doesn't have a RNG drawing and 1 draw a day and see if I can get my system that I used before in Ky to work there.

I could live off the lottery with my winnings, but I have kiddos and I am too nervous to take the plunge at this time... maybe when they get finished with college.  :)

I think the big picture is what do folks do with the money they win each time?  As with anything, you always take your original money you invested and put it back in your pocket... then you are playing for free.  I call that the profit.  So when you have a "bad day", it doesn't hurt at all.

With profit, a portion is ALWAYS given away to a charitable cause or some form to help others.  I firmly believe when you give, you shall receive.  I know many, many people who get an extra few bucks in their pocket and spend it instantly... then wonder why they are living paycheck to paycheck.  A rainy day lottery nestegg is the best investment!

I am like you,  take your orignal money and put it back in your pocket.

I lost $50 last year... poof...  went quickly...

I voted yes. If I could win and save enough money to live on for at least 2 years, then I would cautiously consider trying it for one year. Obviously if I won a jackpot worth millions that would be an easy decision to make. Wink

I voted No.  This is pure entertainment for me.  If I were to I abandon all my other endeavors to pursue "the game", then I would have to pick another hobby.  This takes up enough time as it is.

I don't believe anyone can win on a consistent basis playing the lottery or any other form of gambling. The odds of coming out ahead all the time are just too high. I know anyone can have a hot streak and win more than they lose for a time, but in the long run everyone will lose more than they win.

I would go as far to say that even if you win a major jackpot, if you plow all your winnings back into the lottery over a period of years, one day you will be as broke as the day before you won "The Big One."

People that say they win more money than they lose are lying to themselves. If they really could beat even the cash 3 games they could take the winnings and keep increasing the bets and eventually make millions. So why work?

Bottom line- If anyone ever does come up with a system that can beat the lottery, there won't be a lottery for us to play.

With the lottery I get all the exercise I need.
